Itinerary
Day 1
Pickup from Windhoek, craft market stop at Okahandja, transfer to lodge near Anderson Gate for overnight.
Pickup in Windhoek and depart for Okahandja
Meet your guide for pickup from your Windhoek hotel or Hosea Kutako International Airport and depart north toward Okahandja. Short comfort stops are included en route.
Tips from local experts:
- Have your hotel name and pickup location visible in your booking confirmation to speed the meeting with the guide.
- Carry a light daypack with sun protection and a water bottle for the morning transfer.
- Expect the guide to arrive at the hotel lobby or airport 30 minutes before the scheduled pickup window.
Okahandja Craft Market (local crafts stop)
Visit the roadside craft market at Okahandja to view items made of wood, semi-precious stones, bone and fabrics. Time to browse and purchase souvenirs if desired.
Tips from local experts:
- Bring small Namibian dollars or cash for purchases; not all stalls accept cards.
- Bargain politely — haggling is common at craft markets but keep it friendly.
- Keep valuables close and use a cross-body bag while browsing in crowded areas.
Drive north to Etosha region (scenic transfer)
Continue the transfer north across the Namibian highlands and open farmland toward the Etosha region. Short breaks for refreshments and photos at viewpoints as timing allows.
Tips from local experts:
- Carry a refillable water bottle to reduce plastic waste during the long transfer.
- Wear layered clothing — early mornings can be cool, afternoons warm.
- Keep your camera handy; the roadside scenery and small rural settlements offer good photo opportunities.
Check-in and overnight at Toshari Lodge (near Anderson Gate)
Arrive at the lodge near the Anderson Gate of Etosha National Park. Time to check in, rest, and enjoy dinner at the lodge (dinner included).
Tips from local experts:
- Confirm any dietary needs with the lodge at check-in so the kitchen can accommodate them.
- Keep a charged headlamp or torch handy for the short walk between rooms and dining areas after dark.
- Leave valuables in the secure lodge safe; wildlife is less of a concern at the lodge but general caution is advised.
Day 2
Early breakfast, full game drive inside Etosha National Park with stops at waterholes and salt-pan viewpoints. Return to Windhoek after mid-day/lunch.
Morning preparations and depart to Anderson Gate
Early wake-up and breakfast at the lodge, then transfer to the Etosha Anderson Gate to begin the game drive. Guide will organize park permit at the gate.
Tips from local experts:
- Pack binoculars, sunscreen, and a hat before leaving the lodge for the early game drive.
- Bring small snacks and refillable water for the morning — bottled water is recommended in the vehicle.
- Have your passport or ID accessible; the guide handles permits but may need to check details.
Full game drive inside Etosha National Park
Guided game drive through Etosha from gate to waterholes and viewpoints across the Etosha salt pan. Guide interprets sightings and shares local knowledge. Drive finishes by mid-day; lunch at a park restcamp or nearby resort included before departure to Windhoek.
Tips from local experts:
- Keep noise to a minimum on drives — sudden loud sounds can scare wildlife away.
- Use the vehicle’s shade and keep windows partially closed to avoid dust during some stretches.
- Charge camera batteries the night before and carry extra memory cards; encounters can be frequent and brief.
Lunch inside/near park then drive back to Windhoek
Lunch at a park restcamp or resort inside Etosha (arranged by the guide), then depart mid/late afternoon for the return transfer to Windhoek. Drop-off at Windhoek hotels or Hosea Kutako International Airport.
Tips from local experts:
- Keep a small amount of cash for any incidentals at the park restcamp during lunch.
- Expect the return drive to include short rest stops; bring motion-sickness remedies if needed.
- Confirm your preferred Windhoek drop-off location with the guide before leaving the park to ensure a smooth return.
