Itinerary
Day 1
Republic Square
Start of the tour and introduction to Yerevan's central square. During the Soviet period the square was called Lenin Square and hosted major parades; after independence the Lenin statue was removed and the square renamed.
Tips from local experts:
- Meet your guide on time — the group departs promptly. Bring a small daypack for snacks and water.
- Carry small change for quick purchases and public toilets; some kiosks accept cash only.
- Take photos from the northern side for a clear view of the surrounding government and museum buildings (best in morning light).
Sasuntsi Davit Metro Station
Visit one of Yerevan's original metro stations (opened 7 March 1981). The station is connected to the railway station via a pedestrian tunnel and is named for the national epic hero David of Sassoun.
Tips from local experts:
- If you plan to travel on the metro segment, bring exact change or a local transport card; cards are commonly used for multiple riders.
- Watch your step on station stairways and escalators; keep group together when using tunnels between railway and station.
- Try a quick 'subway' snack at kiosks near the station — choose pre-packaged items if you prefer easy-to-carry tasting.
Malatia-Sebastia (Bangladesh market area)
Explore the Malatia-Sebastia district area known locally as 'Bangladesh' — a bustling market zone famous for agricultural products and local snacks. The guide will point out local specialties and lead a short tasting of popular snacks.
Tips from local experts:
- Bring a reusable bag and small bills for market purchases; many vendors prefer cash.
- If you have dietary restrictions, tell the guide before tasting so they can point out suitable options.
- Wear comfortable shoes and be prepared for narrow market aisles and crowds during peak hours.
CCCP district (Melkumov Street)
Walk through the CCCP district along Melkumov Street. The guide will explain the origin of the area's Soviet-era name and point out architectural and cultural traces from that period.
Tips from local experts:
- Expect some uneven pavements; keep to sidewalks and watch for local traffic when crossing streets.
- If you want photos with Soviet-era signage or murals, ask the guide for the best viewpoints.
- Carry a light jacket — microclimates in city neighborhoods can be breezy even in autumn.
Children's Railway
Visit the historic Children's Railway in Yerevan, opened on June 9, 1937 — one of the children's railways established across the USSR that continues to operate in post-Soviet times.
Tips from local experts:
- Children and adults enjoy short photo stops here; supervise small children near platforms and tracks.
- If you want to ride, ask the guide about operating times — services may be limited and run on a schedule.
- Keep belongings secure and be ready for a short walk around the park area surrounding the railway.
