Itinerary
Day 1
Hotel pickup in Yogyakarta
Driver meets you at your Yogyakarta hotel for collection and a short briefing of the day's plan. Exact pickup time is 06:30; driver will confirm your hotel on booking voucher.
Tips from local experts:
- Have your hotel name and room number ready on the voucher to speed pickup.
- Prepare small personal items (hat, light jacket, camera) in a day bag — the vehicle space is limited.
- If travelling with young children, have a familiar snack or toy to settle them quickly for departure.
Drive: Yogyakarta to Prambanan
Transfer east from the city to the Prambanan temple complex. Journey time depends on traffic; schedule includes buffer for local conditions.
Tips from local experts:
- Use the travel time for restroom stops and sunscreen application before arrival.
- Keep a small amount of cash handy for roadside stops; many small sellers don’t take cards.
- If anyone in the group is prone to motion sickness, sit in the front rows of the vehicle and keep windows partially open.
Visit Prambanan Temple
Explore the Prambanan Temple complex. Expect 1–2 hours of walking on paved and stepped areas; familiarise children with steps and boundaries.
Tips from local experts:
- Prambanan has uneven surfaces and steps — supervise children near temples and use the marked visitor paths.
- Bring a lightweight stroller only if your child can be carried on short steps; many inner areas have stairs.
- Buy entrance tickets at the official ticket counter if not pre-purchased; bring ID for any concession tickets.
Drive: Prambanan to Borobudur
Longer transfer across the Yogyakarta region to the Borobudur area. This route includes highway and rural roads; schedule includes buffer time.
Tips from local experts:
- Use this transfer time for a comfort and snack break — restrooms are available at larger service spots.
- Carry lightweight layers — temperatures can change between sites and during transfers.
- Have a copy of any booking vouchers and IDs ready if you plan to buy entrance tickets on arrival.
Visit Borobudur Temple (includes lunch)
Explore Borobudur's terraces and reliefs. Visit includes time for a relaxed walk around the monument and a seated lunch break (lunch included). Follow marked routes and supervise children on steps.
Tips from local experts:
- Borobudur has many stairs and narrow terraces — hold young children's hands near ledges and steps.
- Bring sun protection and refill water bottles; bottled mineral water is provided but having a refillable bottle is handy for kids.
- Entrance tickets and certain access areas may require presenting ID — bring passports or a copy for ticketing if requested.
Drive: Borobudur to Merapi (Sleman)
Transfer northeast toward the Merapi foothills (Sleman). This section reaches higher ground and rural areas where the Jeep/4x4 operators are based.
Tips from local experts:
- Bring a light scarf or jacket — temperatures may be slightly cooler near Merapi than in the city.
- Keep cash available for the local Jeep operator and small vendors; card payments are uncommon in the area.
- Confirm the exact meeting point with your driver at the end of the transfer; Jeep operators usually assemble at a local base.
Merapi foothills — Jeep experience (book on site)
Short off-road Jeep experience exploring the foot of Mount Merapi. The Jeep activity is not included in the tour price and must be arranged and paid for locally; duration shown is the typical on-site time.
Tips from local experts:
- The Jeep ride is bumpy and dusty — secure small children and leave infants out of the Jeep unless the operator confirms a child seat.
- Wear closed shoes and long pants for the Jeep and short walks; bring a small towel or spare clothes for kids.
- Confirm accepted payment method with the Jeep operator (cash is most common) and ask about minimum age or height restrictions.
Return to Yogyakarta and hotel drop-off
Transfer back to Yogyakarta with multi-drop hotel return. Driver will return guests to their original pickup hotels or central Yogyakarta drop-off area.
Tips from local experts:
- Keep personal items and any purchased tickets or receipts handy for quick handover at drop-off.
- If you need a final stop (restroom or snack), tell the driver early — drop-off windows can be tight.
- Confirm your preferred drop-off order with the driver at the start of the return trip to avoid delays for families with small children.
