Itinerary
Day 1
Pickup in Zarzis at 09:00. The guided circuit runs on Djerba island visiting Guellala, Djerbahood (Erriadh), Fadhloun Mosque, and Houmt Souk, returning to Zarzis by 14:00.
Guellala — traditional pottery village
Visit Guellala to see traditional Djerbian pottery workshops and local craft displays. Time allocated to observe potters at work and visit small museums or displays dedicated to local ceramics.
Tips from local experts:
- Bring small-denomination Tunisian dinars for small purchases and workshop souvenirs; many workshops accept only cash.
- Ask the guide before photographing inside workshops or private homes — still photos are usually allowed but some artisans prefer permission.
- Wear comfortable, closed-toe shoes for uneven village streets and brief stairs inside some workshops.
Djerbahood (Erriadh) — street art trail
Walk the murals of Djerbahood in the village of Erriadh, where more than 250 works transform the neighborhood into an open-air art gallery. Short guided stroll highlighting notable murals and local context.
Tips from local experts:
- Wear light layers and a sun hat — many mural routes are exposed with limited shade in spring.
- Keep to narrow streets and follow the guide; some murals are on private walls so remain respectful and avoid touching artworks.
- If you want photos together in front of murals, allow extra time for quieter side streets; main murals get busier at peak times.
Fadhloun Mosque (Houmt Souk) — historic monument
Short visit to the Fadhloun Mosque to see its traditional architecture and learn about its historical role on the island. Note: respectful dress is required; the guide will explain photography and access protocols.
Tips from local experts:
- Wear shoulders and knees covered; women may be asked to cover heads inside or nearby sacred areas — carry a scarf.
- Remove shoes if you are entering prayer areas; follow the guide’s instructions for where visitors may stand or photograph.
- Quiet behaviour is required around the mosque — plan for a short 15–25 minute visit to respect worship times and space.
Houmt Souk — market and old town stroll
Guided stroll through Houmt Souk’s market streets and nearby historic corners. Time for window-shopping, photo stops, and a relaxed walk through the port-side lanes. Lunch is not included but the guide can point out recommended cafés.
Tips from local experts:
- Markets have many narrow alleys; hold hands or stay close if you want an intimate, relaxed pace with your partner.
- Bargaining is common — if you wish to buy, start around 50–60% of the asking price and negotiate politely.
- Carry a small daypack with water and sunscreen; public toilets are available in central market areas but may charge a small fee.
