Private Essential Berlin Tour: Highlights and History
This is a Berlin Group Highlights tour for private groups of 10 people and under.
If you have never been to Berlin before and you would like to sample something from all of the incredible historical epoch’s of this city’s history on a private and personal tour then look no further.
In under 5km we will visit some of the most historically important sites of the 20th Century, not just Europe but the whole of the world. See the imposing Reichstag, originally the parliament building constructed after the formation of the 2nd Reich and the scene of the first major step towards dictatorship after Hitler being made Chancellor in 1933. As well as the easily recognizable, like the Brandenburg Gate, we will also visit what could be described as ‘ghost-sites’ like the nondescript car-park under which lie the remains of the Fuhrer Bunker. This was where Hitler killed himself with the Soviet forces almost upon him.
We will also see how the German state deals with its complex and dark past as we visit a number of memorials on our way including the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe and the Memorial to the Nazi Book Burning in Babbels Platz.
We will pass one of the original surviving sections of the Berlin Wall, the very symbol of the Cold War and discuss how, why and when it was constructed, what brought it down, as well as accounts of the brutality of the East German Border Guards and incredible stories of escape.
And as we head further Eastwards we will start to appreciate the architectural grandeur of what was Prussian and then Imperial Berlin.
Berlin is a city that is always becoming and on this tour you will get the chance to sample as many of the many Berlin's that there have been.

PRIVATE BEHIND THE BERLIN WALL and COLD WAR BERLIN TOUR
Join Birchy or one of our expert guides on a private tour of the key-sites related to the Berlin Wall and Cold War Berlin. Learning the when, why, how of the Berlin Wall explore the incredible Berlin Wall Memorial, with the complete death-strip preserved and partially reconstructed. Unique even prior to the memorialization that occurred after the wall fell, it was the scene of incredible escapes and tragic loss of life. From the Wall Memorial we will head to part of Mitte where the Berlin Wall bounded the American Sector to the South and as well as the British Sector to the west. There we will see the Check Point Charlie (the most famous of all the crossing points between West and East), the immense former House of Ministries buildings (and one of the very few surviving Nazi ministry buildings) and from there head to the last surviving of the BT - variant Watchtower (which we can actually ascend). The tour finishes at Potsdamer Platz, once one of the busiest city intersections in Europe it was decimated by the end of the Second World War and what remained was further erased due to the construction of the Wall and the development of the death-strip. Now a bustling commercial and entertainment district it is a stark symbol of how a city can rebound from what was a social catastrophe if there ever was one. This is a Walking Tour Pickups are on foot
