They truly resemble a winter wonderland. You can relax in the shade or explore the results of the process called sedimentation of calcium carbonate and the work of special kinds of algae and moss. Tufa or travertine has continuously been deposited to form the natural dams that separate the lakes. Since the process is still going on today, just as it has always been, new travertine barriers, stalactites, channels, curtains and cascades are being built and the existing ones are changing, giving the water a sparkling beauty and enhancing the allure of the trees and stones which fall into the lakes. The water keeps breaking through the travertine barriers at different places, so that the entire process of formation of lakes and dams is alive and very dynamic. This is a unique and interesting natural phenomenon. Nature continues to impress in undisturbed ecological conditions. Besides the lakes, there are some interesting caves in which the remains of prehistoric settlements have been found. In the end, we suggest using the opportunity to taste typical local dishes from this area in a local tavern (optional). Our agency is situated right in front of the Diocletian’s palace so it is the meeting point and the beginning of the tour. At the beginning of the tour, our guide will tell you some general history facts and then pass through the Golden Gate and enter the Palace. The Palace will make you feel like you entered a maze thanks to the small and narrow alleys. They were built that way to shield the local people from the strong wind called Bura, which blows here during the winter months.
Approach the magnificent Peristil - the central square of the Palace where the emperor Diocletian would show himself to his people at noon every day. Peristyle is closely watched over by a 3500 old and perfectly preserved sphinx. Owing to its unique beauty and unusual acoustics, Peristil became the ideal theater scenery, perfect for opera classics, but also the stage where abundant urban life continues today.
Next to Peristil, there is the church dedicated to the Exaltation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, known locally as the Saint Domnius (Sveti Dujam), a symbol of Split. The Cathedral of Saint Domnius, consecrated at the turn of the 7th century AD, is regarded as the oldest Catholic cathedral in the world that remains in use in its original structure.
In the western part of Diocletian's Palace, near the Peristilyou will have a chance to see Jupiter's temple. It was constructed between 295 and 305 as part of Diocletian's Palace and was dedicated to the supreme Roman god and Diocletian's "divine father", Jupiter.
Walk through the Diocletian’s cellars that once held up the private apartments of the Emperor and represent one of the best-preserved ancient complexes of their kind in the world and find yourself on the main promenade and the modern center of the city - Riva.
Explore hundreds of years of Split history on foot on this private walking tour and learn more about Split’s rich architectural history. Let our professional and licensed local guide make you feel, think and enjoy our Town like local.

Private - Mostar & Kravice waterfalls
During your stay in Split, it would be a shame not to visit our beautiful neighboring country that has a lot to offer. Since it is not that far away from Split you can organize some free time for one day to do some exploring. We offer our help to make your life easier and give you the opportunity to explore as much as you can in the given time. Our friendly guide will welcome you there and embark on this beautiful adventure with you. The drive lasts for a bit more than 2 hours.Firstly you will go through Počitelj, a charming Bosnian village that used to be an Ottoman city. A breathtaking style of architecture on a steep cliff really captivates you. You can still feel a strong oriental culture since the city had been under siege for over 450 years. A rare fusion of the oriental East and the medieval West in Europe attracts the views of all the passers-by. The tower that still guards the narrow passage nearby the Neretva River, on its way from the sea to the interior, had already been a 550-year-old historical guard of this area and people. The famous city mosque that had once been destroyed was afterwards restored to its old glory. After Počitelj, we go to the highlight of the tour and the jewel of Hercegovina, the town of Mostar. It is the most important town in the Herzegovina region, because it is considered to be its cultural and economic capital. There you will be greeted by a local English-speaking guide who will take you on an hour-long tour of the town. You will have an opportunity to hear about the rich history of the town, see the Old Bridge (which is on the list of the protected cultural heritage sites of UNESCO since 2005 together with the old town) dating back to the 16th century. The architecture of the place represents a symbol of tolerance: a shared life between Muslims, Christians, and Jews. The bridge combines the two religiously divided parts of the town, the Christian and Muslim. After the tour, you will have two and a half hours of free time. You can get lost in the famous bazaar and see the heritage of the oriental culture while buying something to remember this day by. You will see The Turkish house (Kajtaz) and Koskin-Mehmed Pasha’s Mosque. If you are a history buff, you can visit the Museum Of Crimes Against Humanity And Genocide 1992-1995 to learn about the dark side of its history. The last stop on our tour will be the wonderful Kravica waterfalls or Medjugorje sanctuary. For the Park of nature Kravice, you have an hour and a half. Its most famous cascade is called Kravica waterfall and is protected by the state as a natural rarity. The best part about it is that you can find the necessary refreshments there during those hot summer months. It is called “The Oasis in the stone”.
