Marine life is abundant and divers may find tunas, stingrays, large groupers, moray and barracuda, parrotfish and trumpet fish among others. The Corveta Afonso Cerqueira was a warship of the Portuguese Navy and was sunk on 4 September 2018 south of Cabo Girão off the island of Madeira. The ship, declared a national park soon after the sinking, forms an artificial barrier home to various marine animals.The Corvette is 85 meters long and is still in excellent condition and was sunk for scuba diving; for this reason, it is possible not only to visit the external part of the wreck (where most of the marine life is found) but also the internal part including the engine rooms, the bridge, the bar and many other areas.The wreck hosted the European Underwater Photography Championship in 2022 and is considered one of the best wrecks in the Atlantic.The average depth is 15-20 m.Gear rental and extras are available directly at the shop. If you haven't been diving recently or you prefer to start with an easy dive we normally suggest to start your holiday with a dive in our house reef, just a few steps from our shop. This is an easy and lovely dive, interesting for beginners and experienced divers alike thanks to its volcanic caves and rock formations. Maximum depth is around 15 meters. Encounters with octopuses, barracudas, young groupers, garden eels, trumpet fish, rays, cuttlefish and moray eels are common.After the house reef dive you can join us for an amazing boat dive trip to dive in the most exciting dive sites of the island.

BOAT DIVESWe run daily boat trips (one tank dive and 2 dive trips in the morning at 9h and one in the afternoon at 14h00) to dive in the most exciting dive sites on the island: Garajau National park and Cabo Girão Marine park. They are all characterized by vibrant biodiversity, clear waters, and an abundance of marine life! This zone is a paradise for underwater photography. Divers may find here tunas, mackerels, large groupers, barracudas, huge stingrays, morays, etc. In addition, from time to time we have the chance to spot some amazing creatures, such as frogfish, huge round stingrays, sea horses, and turtles. The average depth is 15-20 m.If you like wreck diving we can even take you to explore the wreck of the Corveta Afonso Cerqueira F488 located in the Marine Park of Cabo Girão, an authentic artificial reef or the Pronto Wreck at 30mt right in front of our dive shop.

In the Ocean, there is always something to see, especially because we do have resident cetacean species in Madeira such as Sperm whales, bottlenose dolphins, and Common dolphins. The best season to spot some of the biggest whales in the world is Springtime (March to December). There are many ways to learn about the marine wilderness in the protected area of Ponta de São Lourenço. But the best way to experience the underwater world is to simply put on a mask, dip your face beneath the surface, and open an unforgettable window of wonder! The boat will stop in the most enchanting spots to let you practice snorkeling, always accompanied by our expert guide. You will be back at Marina of Quinta do Lorde after about 2 hours
OUR BOATOur boat is a 300-horsepower speed boat, allowing us to move quickly to increase our chances of encounters. The manoeuvrability of the boat allows us a controlled and serene approach. Our boat is equipped with a very quiet engine, for your comfort and one of the cetaceans.SMALL GROUPSAZUL DIVING offers trips in small groups, 18 people maximum, to give you a unique and more intimate experience. You will be accompanied on board by our Marine Biologist.We might offer you the possibility to enter the water with the dolphins if the following conditions are met:(PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS NOT A SWIM WITH DOLPHINS TOUR)- Correct species: Common dolphins or Spotted Dolphins- Good sea conditions- No juvenile dolphins in the pod- The animals are not avoiding the boat and do not show signs of stressMadeira’s regulations are strict to preserve the natural habitat, and for this reason, is not always possible to get in the water.
