Our Ice Fishing Trip will take you to a frozen lake located around 20 kilometres north of Rovaniemi, over the Arctic Circle. The destination will make you fully aware of the amazing Arctic beauty and give you the chance to enjoy it in silence. The place we choose for ice fishing not only offers a good chance to catch something but also brings peace to your mind. Many locals still practice this activity during the winter to catch food for themselves, and to enjoy the relaxing serenity of Lapland nature.After being picked up from your accommodation and given proper winter clothing and boots (it can be very cold on the lake), your guide will drive you away from Rovaniemi to find the peaceful location. Then you have a short 5 minute walk through the Arctic forest before you reach the beautiful frozen lake. Once you have found a promising spot, your guide will show you how to drill your own hole in the ice, and teach you the basic techniques of how to ice fish. Then, it is just a matter of time and patience before you can feel the first bites! This is just the perfect moment to appreciate the silent wilderness spreading all around you.Your guide will always be there to assist you if you will need help or feel cold. While you are fishing, your guide will chop wood and prepare a fire on the shore for you. If you manage to catch a fish (of a decent size), your guide will happily prepare it, cook it straight over the fire and add it to the menu of the day! Unlike alpine skiing and cross-country skiing, which are undertaken on groomed trails, backcountry skiing is more accessible as you require no specific boots and allows you to get out in the immediate wilderness easily. As the skis are equipped with skin on the bottom, they allow you to go uphill and downhill without excessive speed. Like snowshoeing, it does not require much practice to get used to the gear and techniques to slide on deep snow making it very comfortable and easy to use, even for beginners!Your guide will choose a location that best fits the level and needs of the group, but also that allows you to get a good chance to enjoy the wonderful nature. Riisitunturi is a national park located approximately 150 kilometres east of Rovaniemi in a hilly area of Finnish Lapland. Riisitunturi National Park is famous for having beautiful photogenic winter sceneries with majestic snowy trees. Thick blankets of snow and ice turn spruce trees into big puffy marshmallows that attract tourists and photography enthusiasts.You meet the guide in the morning and they'll drive you approximately 2 hours from Rovaniemi through the Arctic wilderness. Santa Claus Village is a perfect family destination with loads of fun things to do. Get ready for an unforgettable visit!We'll start by picking you up from your hotel in Rovaniemi or from our office. Then, we'll take a short ride to Santa Claus Village, where your friendly guide will be your personal Santa's helper. He will show you all the amazing places here and take some wonderful pictures of you. Don't worry - we'll send those pictures to you later in the day so you can cherish these special moments.First, we'll visit Santa's Post Office, where his little helpers are always busy. Then, we'll go to the Arctic Circle line, and you can step across it. Our guide will make sure to take awesome pictures of this special moment.You'll also see the Roosevelt Cottage, which is the oldest building in Santa Claus Village. It was built in 1950 when Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt visited the Arctic Circle. Korouoma is 30-kilometres long and up to 130-meters deep canyon fracture valley located 110 kilometres south-east of Rovaniemi. In the wintertime, the waterfalls turn into fantastic ice formations which are well-known for ice-climbing and a great attraction for tourists coming from all around the world.Your guide will drive you to Korouoma Canyon for a nice hike in the nature reserve. This safari will take you out of Rovaniemi, straight into the Taiga forest and its beautiful nature, where you can learn more about the trees, plants and wildlife. You will also be taught how to use your surroundings to make a fire and other basic survival skills.The tour operates all year round, with specific features attached to each season. Korouoma is a 30-kilometre long, and up to 130-meter deep canyon located 110 kilometres south-east from Rovaniemi. It offers breathtaking scenery all year, with cliffs, rapids and waterfalls.
