5 21Explore Wild Arctic Trails, 1:1 with Your Husky Äkäslompolo sits on the edge of Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park, about an hour's drive or bus ride from Kittilä airport, and around 45 minutes from Muonio, the quieter side of Finnish Lapland. This is a hands-on alternative to sledding to benefit both you and the dogs! You'll walk Arctic Lapland's Wilderness trails paired 1:1 with your own husky, working together. You will be collected from the meeting points or your accommodation in Äkäslompolo and start with a warm welcome and safety briefing. You'll meet the Alaskan Huskies, who we work with. Alaskan Huskies are a working dog, bred over generations for stamina, speed, and drive rather than a set look, which is why they all look different. What they share is an enthusiasm for the trail that's hard to match. You'll be paired 1:1 with one for the walk, then fitted with a waist harness before we show you how we communicate with the dogs, practicing steady walking, and teamwork allowing your husky to walk ahead, leading the way.During the tour, you will explore trails around Äkäslompolo, and routes within Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park which are typically 6 to 12km, depending on the conditions and group ability, at a pace built around connection rather than speed. In autumn, that means peaceful forest paths, golden colour, and open fell views. In winter, it's walking along compacted snowy trails. This corner of Lapland records some of the cleanest air on Earth, measured at Pallas within this same national park and in nearby Muonio. Away from real light pollution, the quiet out here is remarkable even with a husky at your side. We stop along the way for photos, rest, and time with your dog.Your guides, Ciara and Susi, call this place home. Before moving to Lapland, Ciara worked as a sea kayaking guide and windsurfing instructor, and ran her own tour business in Ireland. She moved here five years ago to work as an expedition guide with sled dogs, and now owns a family of eight dogs together with Susi. Guiding people outdoors is what she has built her working life around. Susi, from Germany, has called Lapland home for twenty years and is a veterinary technician by training having a deep care for dogs and dog welfare. Together they run Move with Nature, pairing each guest 1:1 with a husky at a pace suited to all experience levels, to connect with nature and the dog beside you in a completely different way.Move with Nature runs a select number of tours each week. Guiding and the outdoors is where Ciara and Susi's experience and enthusiasm come through most, and a smaller calendar leaves time for their eight dogs and their life here in Finnish Lapland. If your preferred date isn't listed, please get in touch directly. We're often able to arrange an additional departure.
