Please bring your license (photo or copy is fine) and sign a short waiver before the tour.Children: For safety, children under 6 cannot join. Children under 15 ride in a sled pulled by the guide, while those 15+ and at least 140 cm tall can sit as passengers. Ice Fishing Trip
Our Ice Fishing Trip will take you to a frozen lake located around 20 kilometres north of Rovaniemi, over the Arctic Circle. The destination will make you fully aware of the amazing Arctic beauty and give you the chance to enjoy it in silence. The place we choose for ice fishing not only offers a good chance to catch something but also brings peace to your mind. Many locals still practice this activity during the winter to catch food for themselves, and to enjoy the relaxing serenity of Lapland nature.After being picked up from your accommodation and given proper winter clothing and boots (it can be very cold on the lake), your guide will drive you away from Rovaniemi to find the peaceful location. Then you have a short 5 minute walk through the Arctic forest before you reach the beautiful frozen lake. Once you have found a promising spot, your guide will show you how to drill your own hole in the ice, and teach you the basic techniques of how to ice fish. Then, it is just a matter of time and patience before you can feel the first bites! This is just the perfect moment to appreciate the silent wilderness spreading all around you.Your guide will always be there to assist you if you will need help or feel cold. While you are fishing, your guide will chop wood and prepare a fire on the shore for you. Some typical Finnish campfire snacks and hot drinks will be served around the fire and will offer a great opportunity for your guide to answer all your questions about life in the Arctic and Lapland in general. If you manage to catch a fish (of a decent size), your guide will happily prepare it, cook it straight over the fire and add it to the menu of the day! If the fish are undersized, we return them to the ice without unnecessarily harming them.In all our activities, our groups are limited to 8 people maximum. Arctic Adventure through Magical Frozen Forests of Riisitunturi
Riisitunturi is a national park located approximately 150 kilometres east of Rovaniemi in a hilly area of Finnish Lapland. Riisitunturi National Park is famous for having beautiful photogenic winter sceneries with majestic snowy trees. Thick blankets of snow and ice turn spruce trees into big puffy marshmallows that attract tourists and photography enthusiasts.You meet the guide in the morning and they'll drive you approximately 2 hours from Rovaniemi through the Arctic wilderness. During the drive, you can admire all the beautiful views that the winter in Lapland offers. When you reach your destination, it's time for a 4-kilometres-long walk in the national park. If needed we can take snowshoes with us if there has been a lot of fresh snow!Your guide will take you on a hike through the national park where you can admire the beauty of Arctic nature in Finnish Lapland, and have a chance to observe stunning snow covered trees (the snow load of a full-grown spruce tree can be up to four tonnes) typical for Riisitunturi National Park.As you hike through this winter wonderland, your guide will introduce you to the wildlife of the area and teach you more about nature and your surroundings. Refreshments and a typical Finnish campfire lunch will be served around the open fire to keep you warm. This is a great opportunity for your guide to show you how to build a fire using traditional methods. No need for matches or a lighter, your guide will use flint & steel and natural materials you can find in the nature that surrounds you (we can do this in conditions as cold as -30°C). Lunchtime is also a great moment for your guide to share their passion and knowledge and answer all your questions about nature, Lapland and life in the Arctic.The excursion lasts around 8 hours, including transportation, hiking and the convivial time around the fire. The adults enjoy snowmobiling whilst the children enjoy the ride seated comfortably in a sleigh pulled by our guide.Halfway we make a longer stop, where your guide will serve you warm beverages and sweet snacks, creating a cozy moment amidst the winter landscape.
