4.891Ice Fishing Trip

Ice Fishing Trip

Our Ice Fishing Trip will take you to a frozen lake located around 20 kilometres north of Rovaniemi, over the Arctic Circle. The destination will make you fully aware of the amazing Arctic beauty and give you the chance to enjoy it in silence. The place we choose for ice fishing not only offers a good chance to catch something but also brings peace to your mind. Many locals still practice this activity during the winter to catch food for themselves, and to enjoy the relaxing serenity of Lapland nature. After being picked up from your accommodation and given proper winter clothing and boots (it can be very cold on the lake), your guide will drive you away from Rovaniemi to find the peaceful location. Then you have a short 5 minute walk through the Arctic forest before you reach the beautiful frozen lake. Once you have found a promising spot, your guide will show you how to drill your own hole in the ice, and teach you the basic techniques of how to ice fish. Then, it is just a matter of time and patience before you can feel the first bites! This is just the perfect moment to appreciate the silent wilderness spreading all around you.Your guide will always be there to assist you if you will need help or feel cold. While you are fishing, your guide will chop wood and prepare a fire on the shore for you. Some typical Finnish campfire snacks and hot drinks will be served around the fire and will offer a great opportunity for your guide to answer all your questions about life in the Arctic and Lapland in general. If you manage to catch a fish (of a decent size), your guide will happily prepare it, cook it straight over the fire and add it to the menu of the day! If the fish are undersized, we return them to the ice without unnecessarily harming them.In all our activities, our groups are limited to 8 people maximum. It is very important for us to provide you with the best experience possible, and avoid mass tourism. This way, your guide will know you better and will be able to address all your needs and answer your questions. Also, in relation to ice fishing, keeping our groups small allows our guests to fully experience the peaceful silence of Lapland nature. As we usually say - the smaller the group, the bigger the experience!

4.5131Northern Lights Wilderness Tour with Professional Camera

Northern Lights Wilderness Tour with Professional Camera

After we pick you up from your accommodation and outfit you with professional winter overalls and boots (temperatures can drop to -30°C!), your Northern Lights guide will drive you far from Rovaniemi, heading straight into the wilderness to start the Northern Lights hunt.During the day, we always check the weather forecasts and the solar activity reports. This way, we can adapt the start of the tour to give you the best chance to enjoy the clearer sky and observe the Northern Lights. Using our analysis of the meteorological conditions and our experience, we choose locations that should offer a better opportunity to see this natural phenomenon. For instance, if the forecasts and Northern Lights predictions look unfavorable around the Rovaniemi area, your guide can take you further afield to find a better sky.We also monitor weather conditions during the tour and can decide together to hop back into the minivan and move to another location if needed. During this 4-hour Northern Lights hunt, you can visit up to 3 different locations to maximize your chances of observing the Northern Lights. This excursion will also offer you the unique opportunity to drive long distances through the Lappish wilderness, explore the Arctic nature and take on different routes that will lead you to fantastic scenery; snowy forests, powerful rapids, quaint frozen beaches and vast ice covered lakes. Hopefully, with the Northern Lights dancing over your heads!Refreshments and a typical Finnish campfire snack will be provided halfway, as your guide lights a fire to keep you warm. This is a great opportunity for your guide to show you how to build a fire using traditional methods. No need for matches or a lighter, your guide will use flint & steel and natural materials you can find in the nature that surrounds you (this can be done in conditions as cold as -30°C!). Once the fire is burning and the kettle is boiling, your guide will keep an eye on the moving sky. This break around the campfire will be also the perfect moment for your guide to answer all your questions about Lapland, life in the Arctic and the Northern Lights. Hot drinks are served, sausages are grilled over the campfire and bread toasted for you.We invite you to take your camera with you (you can rent or buy a tripod from us if you wish) to capture the Northern Lights. In all cases, your guide will be equipped with a professional camera and will take many pictures for you, of you and the Northern Lights. A link to download all the pictures will be sent to you the next day.On all our excursions, our groups are limited to 8 people maximum. This tour is for children aged 5 years old and upwards. Ski Trekking Safari in Lapland

There is no better way to explore untouched parts of Arctic nature than backcountry skiing! As your professional guide will take you away from Rovaniemi, into the Taiga forest of the area to explore some of the breathtaking scenery of Lapland!Backcountry skiing, is a great way to explore snow covered Lapland. Unlike alpine skiing and cross-country skiing, which are undertaken on groomed trails, backcountry skiing is more accessible as you require no specific boots and allows you to get out in the immediate wilderness easily. As the skis are equipped with skin on the bottom, they allow you to go uphill and downhill without excessive speed. Like snowshoeing, it does not require much practice to get used to the gear and techniques to slide on deep snow making it very comfortable and easy to use, even for beginners!Your guide will choose a location that best fits the level and needs of the group, but also that allows you to get a good chance to enjoy the wonderful nature. They will also provide you with safety instructions and teach you some techniques on how to use the skis correctly. Refreshments and a typical Finnish campfire snack will be provided halfway, as your guide will light a fire to keep you warm. This is a great moment for you to learn more about life in the Arctic and local nature. This tour lasts 4 hours, which includes the transportation from/to Rovaniemi, the campfire snack around the fire and the skiing time in nature (around 60-90 minutes depending on your level). In all our activities, our groups are limited to 8 people maximum. It is very important for us to provide you with the best experience possible, and avoid mass tourism. Guaranteed Northern Lights Hunting Adventure in Lapland

Guaranteed Northern Lights Hunting Adventure by Wild About Lapland is designed to maximise your chances to see the magical Aurora Borealis during your stay in Rovaniemi and experience a true night expedition. After we have collected and properly dressed our guests with professional winter overalls and boots (temperature can drop to -30°C!), your Aurora guide will drive you far away from Rovaniemi, straight out to the wilderness to start hunting for the Northern Lights.During the day, we always check the weather forecasts and the solar activity reports. Please note that your tour can start even in the later afternoon to be able to drive to selected locations! We always check the evolution of the weather conditions during the tour, and you may decide together to jump back in the minivan and get to another location if you feel so. As this excursion is a 7-hour Aurora hunt, you will get the chance to visit several different locations. This adventure will also offer you the unique opportunity to drive long distances through the Lappish wilderness and explore Arctic nature. You may embark with your guide on different routes that will always lead you to fantastic scenery. You may end up in the middle of nowhere, where you can enjoy the silence on a lake beach, an open hill-top or a snow covered forest. In such cases, you will receive a 50% refund to cover the fuel and equipment costs of the tour.Focusing on pure Northern Lights hunting, during the tour, we will provide you just with some hot drinks and light refreshments during short stops to keep your energy level sufficient and reduce the time spent somewhere around the fire. This tour is designed to provide our guests with the best possible chances to see the Northern Lights. 4.816Rovaniemi – Real Northern Lights Hunting Experience (Small Group)

Rovaniemi – Real Northern Lights Hunting Experience (Small Group)

This is a real Northern Lights hunting experience, not a short sightseeing tour.Weather conditions in Lapland change fast, and seeing the Aurora Borealis often requires flexibility and driving outside the city area. Our experienced guides monitor weather forecasts and Aurora activity in real time and adapt the route accordingly, choosing locations with the best possible conditions on each night.Unlike fixed-route tours, we do not visit the same locations every night. Each tour is planned individually based on current weather conditions, cloud coverage and Aurora activity, which means some nights are easier and found closer to Rovaniemi, while other nights require more patience and distance.Aurora Borealis is a natural phenomenon and can never be guaranteed, but this real hunting experience focuses on making the right decisions based on experience, weather and timing. The tour is operated by Northern Lights Tours Rovaniemi Oy and delivered under the Arktictopia brand.
