They truly resemble a winter wonderland. You can relax in the shade or explore the results of the process called sedimentation of calcium carbonate and the work of special kinds of algae and moss. Tufa or travertine has continuously been deposited to form the natural dams that separate the lakes. Since the process is still going on today, just as it has always been, new travertine barriers, stalactites, channels, curtains and cascades are being built and the existing ones are changing, giving the water a sparkling beauty and enhancing the allure of the trees and stones which fall into the lakes. The water keeps breaking through the travertine barriers at different places, so that the entire process of formation of lakes and dams is alive and very dynamic. This is a unique and interesting natural phenomenon. Nature continues to impress in undisturbed ecological conditions. Besides the lakes, there are some interesting caves in which the remains of prehistoric settlements have been found. In the end, we suggest using the opportunity to taste typical local dishes from this area in a local tavern (optional).
