As we drive toward Övre Soppero, we make several aurora-hunting stops at selected viewpoints chosen for clear skies and open horizons. These locations give you the best chance to see the northern lights on the way to the reindeer.When we arrive, you’ll meet the reindeer in a calm and natural winter setting. You will have the opportunity to feed them by hand - an important part of their care during the winter months, when otherwise they would have hard times to survive in nature, as heavy snow, ice, and rapid freeze make it difficult for reindeer to reach their natural food. This is not a touristic performance, but real Sámi life, which you will have the chance to take part of.You’ll learn about Sámi traditions, reindeer herding, and what it means to grow up with these animals. Your guide shares personal stories and knowledge passed down through generations.After the feeding, we warm up inside a traditional Sámi hut with a fire burning in the center. Before we set out, your guide will lead a brief yet engaging safety introduction — ensuring that everyone feels comfortable and confident before stepping onto the ice. Your safety and enjoyment are always our highest priority.Once we arrive at our pristine destination, we prepare our equipment and venture out onto the glistening ice. This experience also doubles as a Northern Lights tour: if the aurora appears during the drive, we stop to enjoy the show. Both along the way and outside the sauna as the chances increase but are not guaranteed when we change geographical location during the evening's experience. Just 30 meters from the shoreline stands our exclusive yet traditionally simple wooden lake sauna, beautifully framed by the frozen winter landscape. Upon arrival, we gather in a wooden grill hut (eldkåta) where we grill sausages over an open fire while the sauna heats up. This is a warm and relaxing moment to settle in before entering the sauna.In the anteroom we undress and then enter the sauna. We sauna according to the Scandinavian sauna culture. Here we are naked in the sauna but it is not a compulsion and swimwear is allowed. We change in a unisex changing room.Once inside the wood-fired sauna, our guide will guide the ice bath for those who want to participate in that activity. There is also the opportunity to cool off in the arctic snow under the starry sky with the possibility of seeing the northern lights!
