Uganda is one of the few countries in the world where the Imaginary line that divides the earth into two halves (The Equator) passes. It being one of the most and well-known landmarks in Uganda, many people come here from different parts of the world to feel the lighter-weight experience and many other things and be able to stand on the two Hemispheres that make our world.Lighter weight!!It’s true, you will find out that your 3% lighter at the equator line. Why? This comes about because; weight is a force of which gravity acts on mass. Along this line, anyone’s weight will be less by 0.5% thus gravity is 0.5 % less at the Equator. This is inclined to the earth not being a perfect sphere. At the poles, it is flattened. You will be a few tons of kilometers away from the center of the earth while standing at the equator unlike when standing at the poles. Gravity is therefore only slightly less at the equator because it falls off with distance.

Flanked today by the city of Jinja, the waterfall described by Speke now lies submerged beneath the Owen Falls Dam, Uganda's main source of hydro-electric power. Still, a visit to the source of the Nile remains a moving and wondrous experience, no less so to those who have seen the same river as it flows past the ancient Egyptian temples of Luxor some 6,000 km downstream.First time to Africa, this is an opportunity to experience the richness of the Black continent through vast plantations of sugar canes, mabira forest and the Maginificent River Nile in less than a day and interacting with the local communities along the way.

It turns out, the sound of a bullet is like the popping of a really fat balloon. Not at all like it sounds in movies. The further you get, the more flat it sounds; a bit like slapping a wooden board but really really loudly. There’s a smell too-metallic smoke. If I am only making these observations now, then you can guess that I have never been that close to a firing gun. In fact, I don’t like guns. But the trip to the shooting range at Kapeeka with Myler Africa safaris seems like a good way to shake off the COVID blues and get back into travel mode. One of the many effects of the pandemic is that traffic stops are not just about the condition of the car and driver anymore. They are also about the social distance and mandatory masks. The road to the shooting range reveals a wide green expanse. Add to that a few ponds, the sun in the sky, the birds in the air and Kapeeka, just 1 and a half hours out of the city presents a decent way to end your weekend.
