Welcome on board of a stylish sailing boat of 12 meters for 8 passengers with 2 English speaking crew member. Experience with them the unique silence and relaxing atmosphere of a sailing navigation along the large Bay of Giardini Naxos and coastline of Taormina. We do a coastal navigation to enjoy each corner of the enchanting bays of Taormina: The Isola Bella Island standing out in the middle of the homonymous bay with its gorgeous vegetation and the renewed Grotta Azzurra that we notice from outside, the rocky cap of S.Andrea which close the Bay of Mazzarò where are located the renewed ancient Villa S.Andrea, then will open the large Bay of Spisone also called Mermaid’s bay characterized by long sandy beach with small coastal villages closing with Castle S. Alessio outstanding on the top of the rock that closes the area of Taormina. During the half day tour we make 2 swimming stop in the bay of Capotaormina and Spisone bay, we also provide snorkel kits on board. We serve beverages, fruits and snacks on the half day.

The day starts from Your Hotel. The pick-up will be arranged between 8:30am and 9:00am (please be ready from 8:15am in the hotel lobby). Your Driver will pick-up you with an air conditioned Land Rover (or similar 4×4 vehicle) from you Hotel or other accommodation located in Taormina area (it is also covers pick-up from Castelmola, Giardini Naxos, Letojanni, Giarre and Fiumefreddo). A lovely drive along the Northern slopes of the Volcano (regular road) will give you the opportunity to visit different lava flows and to observe geological and botanical treasures. Lava flow of 1923 reached the town of Linguaglossa, while the near village of Catena was partially destroyed. Driving through pines, oaks and brooms we will continue the Etna ascent and after an off-road itinerary you will visit the lava front of 2002 and a natural cave created from the lava flow. We will then proceed to an area called Piano Provenzana located at 1800 meters above sea level, where we will see the effect of the great eruption of 2002. This eruption lasted almost three months and it is considered one of the most explosive eruptions from the twentieth century. At Piano Provenzana you will find a ski resort. In accordance with your Driver, it is possible to do a medium hiking and see some of the side craters characterized by seven small, aligned eruptive cones (or “buttonholes”). Along the way we will stop to enjoy a breathtaking view of the North-East Crater, the eruptive mouths and 2002 lava flow, and down to the sea you will admire part of the Ionian and Calabrian coast. Then, proceed to have lunch in a typical country restaurant where you will be served a 3 courses menu which includes a rich selection of starter (salami, cheese, vegetables of the season), a taste of pasta and dessert. Lunch will also include local wine and mineral water. After lunch the tour will get back to your hotel located in Taormina area.

From the coastal road, rich of villas, flowering gardens, and picturesque villages, leads to the historical artist town of Savoca. In a private house in the village Bar Vitelli houses a collection of local artisans’ tools and photographs taken when Francis Ford Coppola shot scenes of The Godfather II. Stroll along the village’s main street past Santa Lucia and San Michele churches for a short view over the valley.Driving away, we’ll find Forza d’Agrò, a charming little village over-looking the Arab-Norman castle of Capo Sant’Alessio. In 1990, Al Pacino and Sophia Coppola shot scenes here for The Godfather III. From the main square, a lane meets the circular steps that ascend to the Gothic-Catalan portal in front of the Church of San Agostino.Later we drive back to Taormina.

Travelling through one of the wine roads of Sicily and crossing large expanses of vineyards (Etna D.O.C.), we will arrive at a local winery. This is the ideal place to enjoy relaxing moments while sampling a snack and excellent wines.Continuing the drive we will reach Piano Provenzana (1800 meters above sea level), a ski resort, and theater of the great eruption of 2002. We will drive along the wine road of Mount Etna, crossing large expanses of vineyards to stop at another local winery to enjoy wine tasting/lunch before driving back to Taormina.

We will enjoy a lovely Jeep experience through Etna area:a brief stop at the 2002 lava flow reachable by jeep through a winding dirt road surrounded by chestnut and oak forests. The 2002 eruption lasted from October 27th to January 29th 2003 and it is considered one of the most explosive eruptions of the past one hundred years. The driver will pick you up and will start driving in direction of Piazza Armerina.Upon arrival, you will have the opportunity to enjoy the visit of the amazing Roman Villa of Casale, that belongs to the Unesco Heritage. Built on the 4th century AD, the Villa was later forgotten and only in the 20th century excavations revealed the whole building. It is the supreme example of a luxury Roman villa (about 3500 square meters of floor mosaics) and was probably the residence of a member of the upper class of the Roman Empire. (Admission fee not included).After the time for an independent lunch, we will drive approximately 2 hours before reaching the Valley of the Temples of Agrigento (Admission fee not included). This archaeological site belongs to the Unesco World Heritage since 1997. The visit of the Valley of the Temples covers the Temple of Hera, the Temple of Concordia, the Temple of Hercules and the Temple of Zeus. Agrigento, according to legend, was founded by Daedalus and his son Icarus after they had fled from Crete “by air”. Historically, however, its origins date back to 582 B.C. when it was founded by Rhodian-Cretan colonist from the neighboring Gela who named their city Akragas after the nearby river of that name. The walking tour of the Valley of the Temples will be done independently.Later we will drive back to Taormina.
