4-Day Safari Tour to Serengeti and Ngorongoro from Arusha

Why this experience

Four days straddling the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater gives you the best argument for both in one seamless expedition. The Serengeti is space—endless plains where you see migration patterns and predator hunts. Ngorongoro is the opposite: a collapsed volcanic caldera that concentrates wildlife in a natural amphitheatre so densely that you might see more animals per hour here than anywhere on Earth. Departing from Arusha in a 4x4 with an English-speaking guide, you'll experience the contrast of scale and density, the difference between hunting grounds and a wildlife magnet. Accommodation alternates between park camps or nearby lodges, keeping you in the rhythm of sunrise and sunset game drives. Four days is the sweet spot—long enough to see multiple ecosystems and animal behaviours, short enough that you don't lose momentum. This is the safari that answers the question: what do real African landscapes hold when you look closely?

Before you go

  • Best time: Dry seasons (late autumn to early spring, and mid-summer to early autumn) for clear visibility and animal concentration
  • Budget: Moderate to high; includes 4x4 transport, park fees, accommodation, and meals
  • Difficulty: Moderate; three full days of early mornings and long vehicle time, basic camp comfort
  • What to bring: Binoculars, light and neutral-coloured clothing, sturdy walking shoes, sun protection, camera, small medical kit
  • Getting there: Depart from Arusha (Serengeti is 6+ hours by road; Ngorongoro is closer)
  • Accessibility: Limited; rough terrain, dust, not suitable for mobility restrictions

Frequently asked questions

Why do both the Serengeti and Ngorongoro in one trip? They're complementary. Serengeti teaches you predator-prey dynamics across scale; Ngorongoro shows you density and volcanic beauty. Together, they frame East African wildlife comprehensively.

How much time do I spend in each park? Typically 2–2.5 days in Serengeti and 1.5–2 days in Ngorongoro. Your operator balances based on migration season and wildlife activity. Ask them to prioritise based on what matters most to you.

What's the drive between parks like? Scenic but long—expect 4–6 hours of driving, often through high-altitude terrain. It's tiring but gives you a sense of the scale of East Africa.

What's included? All 4x4 transport, park entrance fees, accommodation (tented camps or lodges), meals, and an English-speaking guide. Drinks, tips, and any optional activities are extra.

Can I do this with a group or privately? Both options exist. Group safaris are more economical; private safaris let you set the pace. Ask your operator which they recommend for four days.

What's the weather like? Dry season means sunny days, cold mornings (bring layers), and minimal rain. You might experience altitude effects around Ngorongoro (2,300m); drink water and move slowly for the first few hours.
