Itinerary
Day 1
Private 5-hour highlights tour of central Athens. The driver will pick you up at the meeting point and drive the route; drivers give commentary but are not licensed to accompany inside paid sites. If you want a licensed guide to enter sites, arrange this in advance or ask the driver on the day (licensed guides available at extra cost).
Meeting & pickup
Meet your driver for a quick briefing. Pickup from central Athens hotels or Piraeus port (meeting point shown). Confirm passenger list and preferred pace before departure.
Tips from local experts:
- Have a copy of your booking or passenger name ready to show the driver at pickup.
- If arriving from a cruise, confirm your ship name and terminal (A/B/C) with the operator at booking.
- Keep any small bags you need during the day with you; the vehicle will hold larger luggage if required.
Acropolis of Athens - on-site visit
Walk up to the Acropolis rock to view the Parthenon, Propylaea, Temple of Athena Nike, Erechtheion and the Theatre of Dionysus. The driver will stop at the entrance and wait outside the site; licensed guide available on request (extra).
Tips from local experts:
- Wear comfortable shoes and bring a hat — the Acropolis has uneven stone paths and exposed sun on the slopes.
- Your driver is not permitted to enter with you; if you want commentary inside the site arrange a licensed guide in advance or ask the driver to assist with arrangements.
- Bring your ID and any pre-bought tickets; there are ticket booths at the entrance if you did not pre-book.
Temple of Olympian Zeus (Olympieion) — short stop
Drive to and stop for photos and a short exterior visit at the remains of the Temple of Olympian Zeus.
Tips from local experts:
- This stop is a brief exterior visit — there are limited shaded areas so plan for sun protection.
- For photo composition, stand on the pedestrian path opposite the temple for a broad view including the columns.
- Follow the driver’s guidance for timing; this stop is designed to be a short, memorable photo pause.
Panathenaic Stadium (Kallimarmaro) — photo stop
Short stop to see the marble Panathenaic Stadium where the first modern Olympic Games were held (external viewing and photos).
Tips from local experts:
- This is a quick stop ideal for photos; if you wish to enter the stadium interior mention this to the driver so timing can be adjusted.
- The stadium steps are made of marble and can be slippery when wet — take care on the stairs.
- There are public restrooms nearby if you need a comfort break during this stop.
Hellenic Parliament & Tomb of the Unknown Soldier (Syntagma) — short stop
Drive to Syntagma Square for an exterior view of the Parliament building and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier; photo stop and brief walk to view the Evzones if timing permits.
Tips from local experts:
- If you want to see the Evzones changing of the guard, check the daily schedule in advance — timing varies by season.
- This stop is a short walk from the vehicle; there are benches and shaded areas around Syntagma for short rests.
- Keep personal belongings close in busy squares; Syntagma is a central and busy area in Athens.
Drive along Panepistimiou Street (neo-classical trilogy) — brief drive & photo
Short driving passage along Panepistimiou Street to view the Academy, University and National Library (the neo-classical trilogy) from the vehicle with a brief photo stop if traffic allows.
Tips from local experts:
- This is primarily a scenic drive with a brief outside photo opportunity; traffic can slow timings so keep cameras ready.
- Ask the driver for the best side of the vehicle to sit on for clear photos of the trilogy buildings.
- If you prefer a longer stop here, tell the driver before departure so the schedule can be adjusted.
Lycabettus Hill viewpoint — panoramic pause
Short ascent by vehicle (and brief walk at the top) to the Lycabettus Hill viewpoint for panoramic views over Athens — enjoy a relaxed photo moment.
Tips from local experts:
- The top involves a short uphill walk from the vehicle; wear comfortable shoes and allow a few minutes for photos.
- The viewpoint is exposed to wind and sun — a light jacket or sun protection is recommended depending on season.
- For a romantic pause, pick a quieter side of the viewpoint for an unobstructed city panorama.
Acropolis Museum — final visit
Visit the Acropolis Museum on the south slope of the Acropolis to see sculptures and finds from the sacred rock. The museum visit concludes the tour.
Tips from local experts:
- Museum entrance fees are not included in the tour; have ID or pre-purchased tickets ready if you bought them in advance.
- The museum has elevators and seating areas — good for a more comfortable, leisurely finish to the tour.
- Photography rules may apply in some galleries; follow museum signage and staff instructions.
Return drop-off
Drive back to your hotel or Piraeus port and conclude the private tour. Driver will confirm drop-off location and assistance with luggage if needed.
Tips from local experts:
- Confirm your preferred drop-off location with the driver at the start so timing and traffic are planned accordingly.
- If you have onward travel the same day, tell the driver so arrival time can be prioritized.
- Collect any personal items from the vehicle before exiting; drivers can help with luggage if requested.
