Itinerary
Day 1
Half-day senior-friendly private tour covering Athens’ essentials with accessibility-first choices and short walking segments.
Pick-up from your hotel / accommodation in Athens
Driver meets you in the hotel lobby (or pre-agreed meeting point). Staff will assist with boarding and luggage; vehicle is a Mercedes A/C minivan with USB chargers and bottled water.
Tips from local experts:
- Be ready in the lobby 15 minutes before the scheduled pickup; drivers arrive early to avoid rushing.
- Tell us in advance if you use a wheelchair or need a child/infant seat — the team will prepare space and assistance.
- Keep medication and any mobility aids in easy reach; the vehicle has climate control and comfortable seating.
Acropolis — accessible viewing & short, gentle visit
Exterior experience of the Acropolis hill: Propylaea entrance, Parthenon viewpoint and Erechtheion. The driver will drop you close to the accessible route; you can choose a short level path and listen to commentary from the driver.
Tips from local experts:
- If stairs are difficult, request the accessible slope/assist route in advance — staff can help with boarding at a lower entrance.
- Bring a light walking stick if helpful — there are benches on the slopes and shaded rest points; avoid midday heat in May by starting early.
- For minimal walking, remain near the Propylaea/Areopagus viewpoint where you get excellent Parthenon views without climbing to the highest terraces.
Optional: Acropolis Museum — elevator access, climate-controlled galleries
A calm, modern museum just below the Acropolis. Ideal for seniors who prefer seated exhibits, level floors, elevators and accessible toilets. (Include only if you choose the 5-hour option.)
Tips from local experts:
- The museum has elevators and accessible restrooms on multiple levels — ask staff for nearest lift when you enter.
- Start at the Parthenon Gallery (top floor) — it's a compact, wheelchair-friendly route with seating areas and great views of the Acropolis.
- Use the museum café for a rest break; tables have easy access and shaded terrace views of the Acropolis.
Panathenaic Stadium (Kallimarmaro) — level walk and seating
Visit the marble Olympic stadium where the first modern Olympics were held (short flat route, photo opportunities and benches). The driver will stop at the main entrance so you have an easy, level approach.
Tips from local experts:
- The stadium has a level entrance and ramps; benches sit along the exterior if you prefer not to climb the stands.
- If interested, walk a short distance on the track — it's flat and non-slip; staff can fetch a wheelchair-friendly route map at the ticket desk.
- Carry a small sunscreen and hat for May sunshine; shaded seating is limited inside the stadium stands but available outside.
Syntagma Square & Hellenic Parliament — Tomb of the Unknown Soldier
Drive to Syntagma for a short stop at the Parliament and Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Watch a brief Changing of the Guard demonstration if timing allows (hourly), all visible from level pavements.
Tips from local experts:
- There is level pavement and plenty of seating around the square — avoid standing on curbs and use the nearby benches for comfort.
- The hourly Evzones ceremony is visible from the pedestrian area; arrive a few minutes early for the best, easy-to-reach viewing spot.
- Accessible public restrooms are available inside nearby hotels and some public buildings — ask the driver to point out the nearest one if needed.
Mount Lycabettus viewpoint — funicular option to minimize stairs
Short scenic drive to Lycabettus. Seniors may use the Lycabettus funicular (cable railway) to reach the top with minimal walking; panoramic views of Athens and the Acropolis make a restful photo stop.
Tips from local experts:
- Use the Lycabettus funicular (cable railway) — it removes the need to climb steep steps; notify driver so they can buy tickets or wait at the funicular station.
- Top viewpoint has benches and a terrace café — plan a 10–15 minute seated break to enjoy the panorama and limit standing time.
- If the funicular is temporarily closed, the driver can position the vehicle for an excellent lower-elevation viewpoint with almost the same view and zero steps.
Drop-off at your hotel / accommodation or agreed point in Athens
Return to your hotel, port transfer point or Athens International Airport drop-off as arranged. Driver will assist with alighting and luggage.
Tips from local experts:
- Have any onward travel documents or taxi/shuttle arrangements ready — driver can wait briefly to assist with check-in if requested in advance.
- If you need extra assistance to your room (e.g., luggage carried to reception), let us know ahead of time so we can coordinate porter help.
- Keep the driver’s contact on hand for any last-minute needs or to schedule additional time — extra hours can be arranged subject to availability.
