Itinerary
Day 1
Arrival, kit fitting, guided snorkeling over the submerged Roman city of Baia, return and debrief.
Meet & check-in at Sea World Baia Diving (arrival)
Arrive at the diving centre to check in, complete quick paperwork and make yourself comfortable before kit fitting.
Tips from local experts:
- The diving centre is used to families — bring ID for each participant and arrive 10–15 minutes early to avoid a rush.
- There is a bus stop directly in front of the centre (local buses from Bacoli/Napoli) — bring small change for tickets (approx. €2.50) or check the Centro's advice if you prefer a taxi.
- If anyone in the group uses a stroller or needs step-free access, tell the staff on arrival — the centre supports limited mobility and can assist with boarding.
Preparation & equipment fitting (full snorkel kit provided)
Staff will fit masks, snorkels, fins and flotation aids. Kids will be fitted with comfortable life jackets where appropriate.
Tips from local experts:
- Bring a familiar swim cap or a small towel to help kids keep masks in place — having one comfort item helps nervous children.
- Tell the instructor about any ear or respiratory concerns before fitting so they can recommend the best mask and flotation option.
- The centre keeps spare mask sizes but bring a long-sleeve rashguard for sensitive skin; sunscreen is essential for exposed areas.
Briefing: safety, behaviour and a short talk about Baia
A short classroom-style briefing covering safety procedures, how to snorkel as a group, and the archaeological highlights you’ll see from the surface.
Tips from local experts:
- Briefings are child-friendly — instructors will demonstrate signals and flotation practice; ask for a demo if a child is unsure.
- Point out the one-hour route options — if your family has a site preference (e.g., mosaics or statues), mention it now (staff will try to accommodate).
- Ask about the nearest bathroom and the length of time on the buoy so you can plan small snacks and hydration for kids beforehand.
Boarding and short boat transfer to the protected buoy (Molo di Baia)
Board the centre's small boat and cross to the restricted area of the submerged park — a calm 5‑minute transfer to the buoy.
Tips from local experts:
- Children should keep shoes on until staff say otherwise — the pier can be slippery; staff will help with boarding and lifejackets.
- If any family member is nervous on boats, request a seat near the instructor for reassurance and to be first to enter the water.
- Keep a small dry bag with essentials (phone, small snack, band-aids) with the instructor or on the boat — phones are discouraged in the water but handy post-dive.
Snorkeling above the Underwater Archaeological Park of Baia (guided, ~1 hour)
Guided surface snorkel over Roman mosaics, columns and statues preserved at ~4 metres depth. Guides stay with the group and point out features and fish.
Tips from local experts:
- Minimum age is 7 — ensure children have practiced breathing through a snorkel beforehand; staff can run a quick water-confidence drill at the buoy.
- Wear bright-coloured rashguards or request a visibility vest for kids so the guide can spot them easily among fish and mosaics.
- Ask the guide about the route before entering the water — the park has different routes and they can choose one that suits shorter attention spans.
Boat transfer back to the diving centre (Molo di Baia)
Short return trip to the same pier where you boarded. Staff will assist everyone off the boat.
Tips from local experts:
- Have a towel and dry clothes ready on the pier for small children to change into quickly.
- If your child feels cold after snorkeling, the centre provides warm drinks — ask staff for hot chocolate or a warm beverage.
- Keep footwear handy — the pier and centre floors may be wet; non-slip sandals are ideal for kids.
Showers & changing rooms at Sea World Baia Diving
Return to the centre's showers and changing facilities to rinse off and change into dry clothes (showers and lockers available).
Tips from local experts:
- Bring a light, quick-dry change of clothes for kids and a towel — the centre provides showers but not necessarily spare clothing.
- If you need a private changing space for a child, ask staff — family-friendly privacy is available on request at busy times.
- Have a small plastic bag for wet swimwear to keep the car or stroller dry after you change.
Post-dive refreshments & family debrief
Enjoy included light refreshments while chatting with the instructor about the sites you saw and practical tips if you'd like to snorkel again.
Tips from local experts:
- Refreshments are included — check with staff for child-friendly options (juice, light snacks) or advise any allergies at check-in.
- Use this time to collect any complimentary photos or ask instructors for simple at-home activities to keep kids engaged about Roman history.
- If you'd like a larger meal after the activity, staff can recommend family-friendly restaurants a short walk away — ask for high‑chair availability.
End of the experience — departure
Say goodbye to the team. Staff can advise on bus and train times for onward travel or help arrange a taxi back to Naples.
Tips from local experts:
- If using public transport, ask staff for the latest bus number and timetable — they’re familiar with family-friendly connections.
- Keep a printed or screenshot copy of your booking and emergency contact numbers before leaving the centre.
- If you want to extend the day, staff can suggest short, stroller-friendly walks nearby (coastal promenade) or quiet cafés for naps.
