Beijing in 1 Day for Friends - Guided day hike on a wild Great Wall section and a restored section
In Collaboration with Beijing Impression Tours. Updated on February 26, 2026.

This tour stands out because it combines the best of both worlds: the wild, untouched beauty of Jiankou and the well-preserved elegance of Mutianyu. Starting at Jiankou, you will experience the Great Wall in its most dramatic and authentic form, with steep ridges, rugged towers, and breathtaking mountain scenery. The hike then continues to Mutianyu, where the Wall has been carefully restored, 0ff1

Itinerary
Day 1
Driver will pick you up in Beijing and transfer to the Great Wall area. The planned route follows the Bokun agenda: hike from the Gubeikou/Gubekou section toward Jinshanling Great Wall, with time at the Jinshanling exit before returning to Beijing. Timings below include transfer, the continuous hike, short rest at Jinshanling, and return transfer. The guide provided is a local wild-wall hiking guide (no English guide; phone translation available as stated in the booking).
Pickup, transfer to Gubeikou and hike start (Gubeikou section)
Driver will pick you up at your Beijing hotel in a private vehicle and transfer to the Gubeikou (Gubekou) section. From the Gubeikou trailhead the hike begins along the wild Great Wall toward Jinshanling. This block covers the pick-up, the drive to the trailhead, preparation, and the main continuous hiking segment from Gubeikou outward.
Tips from local experts:
- Wear sturdy hiking shoes with good traction—the Gubeikou/Jinshanling ridge is uneven and steep in places.
- Bring a small daypack with water, sun protection, and a light rain layer; bottled water is included but carry a refillable bottle for convenience.
- Carry a photo ID and keep your phone charged; the driver will meet you with a name placard for pickup and communication may rely on phone translation.
Finish at Jinshanling Great Wall and return transfer
The hike concludes at the Jinshanling Great Wall area where you'll have time to rest, take photos, and visit restored watchtowers. After a short break at Jinshanling, board the private vehicle for the return drive to Beijing and hotel drop-off.
Tips from local experts:
- Allow time for photos at watchtowers; some restored sections have stepped paths—use handrails where provided.
- There are limited facilities at remote sections—use restroom facilities at Jinshanling before the return drive.
- Keep a lightweight layer handy; mountain weather can change quickly and temperatures may be cooler at higher elevations.
