Itinerary
Day 1
Hotel pickup in the morning; sightseeing at Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City in central Beijing before driving to Mutianyu for lunch and a Great Wall visit.
Pickup and transfer to Tiananmen Square
Pick up from your hotel in central Beijing and transfer to Tiananmen Square. Short introductory briefing and exterior viewing of the square and its principal monuments (Great Hall of the People, Chairman Mao Memorial Hall, Monument to the People's Heroes).
Tips from local experts:
- Have your passport ready in case the guide needs it for any permit or security checks at landmarks.
- Wear comfortable, closed shoes for short walks across the square; there are benches and public toilets nearby for breaks.
- If weather is sunny, bring a hat and sunscreen—there is limited shade on the square.
Tiananmen Square visit (exterior) and short walk to the Forbidden City
Guided exterior visit to Tiananmen Square to see the Great Hall of the People, Chairman Mao Memorial Hall and the Monument to the People's Heroes, followed by a short walk north to the Forbidden City entrance.
Tips from local experts:
- Security checks are standard; bring only essentials to speed entry and follow the guide's instructions at security lanes.
- There are gentle slopes and paved surfaces on the approach to the Forbidden City; walking is short but expect light crowds—move at a relaxed pace.
- Public toilets are available near the square; use them before proceeding to the Forbidden City to minimize waiting times.
Forbidden City (The Palace Museum) - guided visit
Skip-the-line guided tour of the Forbidden City (The Palace Museum). Visit key sites including the Meridian Gate, Hall of Great Harmony, Hall of Preserving Harmony, Inner Court and the Imperial Garden. Pace is adjusted with seating and rest stops where available.
Tips from local experts:
- The Palace Museum requires ticketed entry and occasional timed slots; your guide will handle entry but keep your passport handy if requested.
- There are long covered corridors and some uneven flagstones inside; use the guide's recommended routes to avoid steep staircases.
- If you need frequent rests, let the guide know—there are benches and quieter courtyards where the group can pause.
Drive to Mutianyu (transfer included)
Private transfer from central Beijing to the Mutianyu Great Wall area (approximately 1.5–1.75 hours depending on traffic). Short comfort stops as needed en route.
Tips from local experts:
- Traffic can vary—expect a longer transfer during morning or afternoon peaks; use the onboard comfort breaks if needed.
- If you prefer climate control during the drive, request it with the guide or driver—vehicles are typically air-conditioned.
- Carry any personal medications or mobility aids in your hand luggage so they are accessible during the transfer and at the Wall.
Lunch with Great Wall view (local restaurant)
Quality local lunch at a non-tourist restaurant near Mutianyu with views toward the Great Wall. Meal is included and paced to allow rest before the cable car ascent.
Tips from local experts:
- If you have dietary restrictions, inform the guide before the meal so the restaurant can prepare suitable options.
- Meals in this area often include communal dishes—ask the server for individual plates if sharing is difficult.
- Restroom facilities are available at the restaurant; use them before heading to the cable car to minimize queues on the mountain.
Mutianyu Great Wall visit (cable car round-trip)
Visit the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall. Included round-trip cable car reduces steep climbing; guided walking on a mostly level section of the Wall with time for photos and rest. Return via cable car and transfer back to central Beijing.
Tips from local experts:
- The included round-trip cable car minimizes stair climbing—notify the guide if you prefer the chairlift instead (if available) or need additional assistance.
- Bring a light jacket; wind on the Wall can be stronger and temperatures cooler than in the city.
- Follow the guide's routing to flatter, less-steep stretches of the Wall for a more comfortable walk and avoid long stair sections.
Return transfer and drop-off at hotel
Private transfer back to your Beijing hotel. Estimated arrival time depends on traffic; the guide will confirm drop-off time and help with any last questions.
Tips from local experts:
- Expect the return transfer to central Beijing to take up to 1.5 hours depending on traffic; carry any small items you need immediately with you.
- If you need assistance with luggage or mobility support on arrival, let the driver or guide know in advance so they can assist.
- Keep a copy of the guide’s contact details for same-day coordination; the guide will confirm the exact drop-off location when boarding.
