Itinerary
Day 1
Private 5-hour daytime wine tour. The operator will visit three estate wineries chosen from the partner list below; order follows partner availability but the sequence here follows the activity backbone. Expect a mix of seated tastings and short scenic village stops. Parts of Santorini are steep and parking can be limited; the driver will get as close to your pickup point as possible.
Pickup from your hotel or port area in Fira
Private pickup from your hotel or the closest accessible meeting point in Fira. Driver will confirm exact pickup instructions after booking.
Tips from local experts:
- Be ready at the confirmed pickup point 5 minutes before the scheduled time to keep the tour on schedule.
- If arriving by cruise ship, notify us in advance — cable car queues may affect pickup from the port.
- Wear comfortable shoes and have ID ready (guests must be 18+ for tastings).
Visit: Venetsanos Winery — cellar tour & tasting
First winery visit: guided cellar tour and seated tasting with local cheese & bites. This estate overlooks the caldera and sits near the port area.
Tips from local experts:
- Ask your sommelier for a short explanation of Santorini’s assyrtiko and volcanic soil influence.
- There are a few steps and uneven surfaces near the older cellar areas — take care and ask for assistance if needed.
- Bring sunglasses for the outdoor caldera viewpoints; they can be windy near the edge.
Drive to next Megalochori estate
Short transfer across the Megalochori area to the second winery. Scenic views en route.
Tips from local experts:
- Seat belts are required — the driver will point out photo spots en route to the next estate.
- If you’d like a photo at a specific viewpoint, tell the driver and we’ll plan a short stop where safe.
- Carry a light layer — coastal temperatures and breeze can change quickly while driving.
Visit: Megalochori winery — family estate tasting
Second estate: generation-run winery presenting a selection of volcanic wines with paired Cycladic cheeses and local bites.
Tips from local experts:
- Tastings often include several small pours — pace yourself and sip between samples.
- If you have any dietary restrictions, notify the guide before the tasting so pairings can be adapted.
- Ask about bottling and maturation during the cellar portion — many estates still use traditional methods worth noting.
Transfer east toward Perivolos beach winery
Drive across the island to the east coast (Perivolos/Kamari area) for the third estate. The route crosses the volcanic interior — expect varied scenery.
Tips from local experts:
- The transfer is on paved island roads; motion-sickness remedies can help if you’re sensitive to winding stretches.
- Keep a bottle of water handy — tastings and walks in the sun can make you thirsty between stops.
- Communicate any mobility needs to the driver so parking and access can be adjusted where possible.
Visit: Perivolos-area winery — modern estate tasting
Third winery: modernized estate on the eastern side of Santorini, with a tasting that highlights contemporary winemaking methods and volcanic character.
Tips from local experts:
- This estate may have indoor seating in modern facilities — good during wind or heat.
- Remind the sommelier of favourite styles (e.g., mineral-driven assyrtiko) to tailor recommendations.
- Photos near the estate’s grounds are usually allowed; ask the staff before entering production areas.
Quick village pass-through: Pyrgos
Short drive and photo opportunity through Pyrgos Kallistis — a traditional hilltop village on Santorini.
Tips from local experts:
- Pyrgos has narrow streets and uneven paving — stay close to the group and avoid high heels.
- If you’d like a short walk, limit it to 10 minutes to keep the tour on schedule.
- There are small cafes and restrooms in the village if you need a quick stop.
Short stop near Fira: Anhydrous (overview)
Drive-by/brief stop at the general Fira/Kontochori area to note another partner estate (Anhydrous) and take quick photos. This is a short orientation stop rather than a full tasting.
Tips from local experts:
- This stop is brief (photo/orientation) — plan a longer visit on a dedicated winery day if desired.
- There may be stairs and uneven ground near viewpoints; take care and use handrails where present.
- Ask your guide about the estate’s wines and where to buy bottles if you want to take home a selection.
Pass-by: Exo Gonia estate area
Brief pass-by through the Exo Gonia area (home to several established wineries) to show production zone and typical vineyard landscapes.
Tips from local experts:
- This is a short orientation stop to view typical vineyard layouts — physical access to cellars is not included here.
- Keep cameras ready for vineyard and stone building photos; early afternoon light is good for landscapes.
- If interested in Boutari or larger producers, note them for a possible future stop — ask your guide for details.
Quick viewpoint: Oia (photo stop)
Short stop for a classic Santorini photo opportunity near Oia / Kolumbo area — not a full visit into town.
Tips from local experts:
- Oia’s paths can be steep and crowded; for a brief photo stop, keep to the marked viewpoints and avoid narrow alleys.
- If you are visiting Oia independently later, allow extra time for walking and small-shop browsing.
- This stop is short to keep the private tour on schedule; request a longer Oia visit when booking if preferred.
Return transfer and drop-off
Return drive to your original pickup area or nearest accessible drop-off point. Driver will drop you as close to your accommodation or the agreed meeting point as possible.
Tips from local experts:
- Expect to arrive back at the central drop-off point in Fira; the driver will advise on the closest accessible location for your hotel.
- Allow time to settle purchases from the tastings in your luggage securely before leaving the vehicle.
- If you’ve enjoyed a particular wine, ask your guide where to buy additional bottles locally before the tour ends.
