Itinerary
Day 1
Start: Oia village – iconic blue domes & cliffside views
Begin the private tour in Oia. Explore narrow lanes, view the famous blue-domed churches and whitewashed cave homes, and frame cliffside shots over the caldera. The driver will position you at several classic and quieter viewpoints for photos.
Tips from local experts:
- Arrive with a light tripod or stable phone mount for low-light/sunset shots; lanes can be narrow so pack light.
- Wear comfortable shoes for uneven paving and short steps; keep bags close in crowded viewpoints.
- Respect private property and marked terraces — use public viewpoints and the driver’s recommended spots.
Firostefani viewpoint – caldera panoramas and blue-domed photos
Short drive to Firostefani for classic caldera and volcano views. The driver will stop at pedestrian viewpoints and quieter lanes for framed shots of the caldera, cruise ships, and the blue-domed churches mentioned in many Santorini images.
Tips from local experts:
- Use the caldera-side sidewalks for stable photo angles; avoid stepping onto retaining walls.
- If you want wider caldera panoramas, ask the driver for a short stop at the principal viewpoint rather than the busiest corner.
- Bring an extra battery or power bank—phone cameras and live-view drain power quickly during extended shooting.
Megalochori village – traditional Cycladic lanes and churches
Visit Megalochori to photograph traditional Cycladic architecture, narrow pathways, village churches and the central square. The driver will drop you where pedestrian access is best for framed village shots.
Tips from local experts:
- Mind low doorways and uneven stones in village lanes; keep camera straps secured in narrow passages.
- If you want portraits against whitewashed walls, avoid busy tavern doorways during local meal times to respect businesses.
- Carry a small bottle of water from the vehicle between stops; village shade can be limited in summer.
Red Beach (Kokkini Ammos), Akrotiri – volcanic cliffs & dramatic shots
Finish at the Red Beach area near Akrotiri to photograph the volcanic red cliffs meeting the Aegean. The driver will stop at the coastal viewpoints above the beach for dramatic landscape photos; direct beach access is optional and depends on time and mobility.
Tips from local experts:
- The coastal viewpoint is reached by vehicle; sit or stand away from cliff edges and follow marked paths.
- Footwear with good grip is recommended if you choose to walk short distances on volcanic rock paths.
- Sunset light is strong on the red cliffs—use polarizing filters or adjust exposure to retain color detail.
