Itinerary
Day 1
One-day private minibus charter from central Fukuoka visiting Takachiho's main natural and cultural highlights with timed breaks.
08:00 — PICK UP: Your Hotel or Hakata Station (Fukuoka)
Meet your driver/guide for boarding and begin the minibus transfer toward Takachiho. The driver will hold a nameboard and the bus is labeled "Leed One Kanko".
Tips from local experts:
- Have one representative (with ID) ready at the agreed pickup point; the driver will display a nameboard for easy identification.
- Confirm your flight/arrival or hotel name in advance so the driver can meet you promptly at the correct entrance.
- Keep hand luggage accessible—the vehicle is a 7m minibus with no external trunk; larger items may be stored inside the cabin under seats.
09:30-09:45 — Break: Shichijo Melon Dome Roadside Station
Short rest stop at the roadside station (local specialties if in season). Stretch legs and use restrooms before continuing to Takachiho.
Tips from local experts:
- If melon season (late spring–summer), look for boxed melons or melon snacks marketed at the stall; otherwise use the restrooms and stretch.
- Allow 10–15 minutes only at this stop to keep the schedule; the bus will wait in the roadside parking area.
- Suitcase or larger bags should remain on the bus; pick up small souvenirs quickly to avoid delay.
11:15-12:15 — Lunch (example: Kagura-Yado, Takachiho)
Lunch stop in Takachiho town. A recommended local option is Kagura-Yado, but the guide will select a practical restaurant for your group's pace.
Tips from local experts:
- If you have dietary restrictions, tell the guide or restaurant staff when seated so they can advise on available dishes.
- Many local restaurants offer mixed seating (tables and tatami); request table seating if you prefer not to sit on the floor.
- Carry some small change or a card—the guide can confirm accepted payment methods before you order.
12:30-14:30 — Free walk: Takachiho Gorge (promenade & optional boat)
Walk the riverside promenade and enjoy views of the basalt cliffs. Optional rental boats are available (not included) — the bus will park at Ohashi Parking Lot and it's a 15-minute walk to the boat terminal.
Tips from local experts:
- Buses must remain at Ohashi Parking Lot; expect a 10–15 minute riverside walk to the boat area—wear comfortable shoes.
- Boat rentals require reservations during busy periods; if you want a boat, reserve online in advance or ask the guide early in the day.
- Bring a light waterproof layer—spray from the waterfall and changing weather in the gorge can make the promenade damp.
14:45-15:15 — Takachiho Shrine
Visit Takachiho Shrine, set in a cedar grove near the town center. Short cultural stop with time to walk the shrine grounds and observe local ritual features.
Tips from local experts:
- Dress respectfully (remove hats, speak softly) and follow local shrine etiquette when approaching the honden (main hall).
- There are steps and gravel paths in the shrine area—sitters or those preferring minimal walking should plan a short visit.
- Small offerings (omikuji or ema) may be available; carry small change if you wish to participate.
15:30-16:00 — Ama-no-Yasugawara (stone altar / piled stones)
Short walk to the Amano Yasugawara rock grouping — a site tied to local mythology with many piled stones created by visitors.
Tips from local experts:
- Paths and rock surfaces can be uneven—wear stable footwear and take care on wet or mossy stones.
- Respect the site: do not move or disturb established stone piles beyond adding a single small stone if you choose to follow local custom.
- This stop is outdoors with minimal facilities—use restrooms at the previous stops if needed.
17:45-18:00 — Break: Shichijo Melon Dome Roadside Station (return)
Quick rest and restroom stop on the return drive toward Fukuoka.
Tips from local experts:
- Use this brief stop to freshen up or buy a quick snack for the ride back; the stop is short so plan accordingly.
- If you bought any perishable souvenirs earlier, pick them up now from the bus before continuing.
- The bus will remain in the roadside parking; inform the guide if you need a few extra minutes (subject to overall schedule).
19:30 — DROP OFF: Your Hotel or Hakata Station (Fukuoka)
Return to central Fukuoka with drop-off at your hotel or Hakata Station. End of service.
Tips from local experts:
- If you plan to visit Nakasu yatai stalls after drop-off, note they begin appearing from around 18:00–19:00 and are a short subway or taxi ride from Hakata Station.
- Confirm your exact drop-off point with the guide at the start of the day to avoid delays; the bus side reads "Leed One Kanko" for easy identification.
- The driver will wait per the operator's pickup policy—notify the operator promptly if your schedule changes to avoid cancellation.
