You will be starting your tour at 8:00 am in the morning. Your chauffeur guide will pick you up from your hotel, in a beautiful classic car. You will then be touring the streets within the Galle Fort on the car. You will get to see many colonial era building; some of which are residences, shops and churches. Your guide will also take you to the ramparts of the old fort, letting you stop and take some photographs. He will also explain some of the Fort’s history. Following this you will be leaving the city to drive through the quaint country lanes. Your drive will take you past little villages and acres of paddy fields. Your driver will take you to a sedate lagoon, known as Mahamodara Lagoon. After enjoying the relaxing atmosphere of nature, you will be leaving towards a village. This village is famous for its woodcarvers, and one of the most iconic and colorful wooden souvenirs of Sri Lanka - the Kandy Perahera Elephant is made here. You will be visiting one of the master carvers and learning the basics of their craft. You will also get to learn the steps and try out your skills at carving a wooden elephant. You can also purchase some beautifully painted wooden souvenirs from the carvers, if you wish. Your next stop will be a visit to a silversmith's workshop. Your guide will introduce you to him, and you will get the chance to personally see how silver jewelry and other accessories are smithed. You will also be able find some exquisite traditionally designed silver items for purchase here. Next you will visit the Wakwella Dam is a dam on Gin River. However, what you’re going to see is not just the dam, which is quite majestic in itself; but also the famous Wakwella Bridge built in 1999. During it’s time of construction, it was the longest bridge in Sri Lanka. After spending some time there, you will be returning.Along the way, you will be stopping at a village to have a drink of a freshly cut king coconut or a cup of delicious traditionally brewed black tea. You can choose one of these as you wish. You will then continue your ride returning to your hotel at 12:00 pm completing your tour.
Galle City and Tea Factory Tour by Classic Car
You will be starting your tour at 8:30 am in the morning from your hotel in Galle. Your English Speaking chauffeur guide will pick you up in a beautiful classic car. The tour will start with a drive around the Galle Fort, where Colonial Dutch architecture is at its best. You can see a number of old buildings such as residences, shops and churches. You may even be able to stop by some of them. Your guide will also take you to the ramparts of the old fort, giving you the opportunity for some great photographs. He will also give you a brief on the Colonial invasions of olden-day Ceylon and the Galle Fort’s history. You will then be driving towards the outer edges of Galle City to visit the oldest markets in Galle, the Dutch Fruit Market and the Dutch Green Market. The stalls of the markets are located within long columned arcades with tiled roofs, dating back to the Dutch era 300 years ago. The old architecture combined with the colorful stalls filled with fruits, vegetables and greens make an attractive sight. You can purchase some tropical fruits to take along for your car ride, if you wish. Next you will be leaving the city to travel to the famous Handunugoda Tea Factory, the only factory in Sri Lanka that exclusively manufactures 100% Virgin White Tea. Along the way you will be able to enjoy the sights of quaint little villages, golden paddy fields, deep green woods, and a number of birds and animals. You will get to this tea factory in Ahangama approximately an hour later. There you will be treated to a great tea factory tour, which will enable you to learn about the artisanal manufacturing process of Virgin White Tea that is created pure and untouched by human hands. At the end of the tour you will also be treated to some complimentary piece of delicious cake and a cup of amazing tea. At the factory you will be able to visit the attached gift shop to purchase some fresh virgin white tea and a number of other souvenirs, if you wish.
