51Galle Day Tour (German & English)

Galle Day Tour (German & English)

Galle, 119km from Colombo, is a major city situated at the tip of the South Western coast of Sri Lanka. Being a coastal area, it is quite hot and humid but has an abundance of beautiful beaches in every town that you pass while travelling from Colombo to Galle. The Galle Fort was built by the Portuguese, fortified later by the Dutch and is well preserved till today. In addition to the Portuguese and Dutch remains, you will also find many British mansions left behind. As for beaches, the Unawatuna Bay probably tops it all and is safe for snorkelling and swimming because a reef protects it. There you have it, a day tour of the city of Galle in a nutshell. In case there is a delay in your departure, try using the Southern Expressway, a recently built highway that can take you to Galle in half the time.  Highlights Galle Fort Dutch CityJungle Beach in GalleRelax at the Beach

61Sinharaja Trekking One Day Tour (Start from Galle)

Sinharaja Trekking One Day Tour (Start from Galle)

Sinharaja Rain Forest, UNESCO named a World Heritage Site in Sri Lanka. It is an ideal day trip for nature enthusiasts who visit Sri Lanka. The trip starts at 6 am from Galle and will take 3 hours to reach the entrance of Sinharaja Rain Forest. You can decide on how far you are going to walk inside the jungle depending on your capacity. You can have your lunch once you come out of jungle. The reserve is only 21 km (13 mi) from east to west, and a maximum of 7 km (4.3 mi) from north to south, but it is a treasure trove of endemic species, including trees, insects, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals. Because of the dense vegetation, wildlife is not as easily seen as at dry-zone national parks such as Yala. There are about 3 elephants and the 15 or so leopards are rarely seen. The most common larger mammal is the endemic Purple-faced Langur. An interesting phenomenon is that birds tend to move in mixed feeding flocks, invariably led by the fearless Greater Racket-tailed Drongo and the noisy Orange-billed Babbler. Of Sri Lanka's 26 endemic birds, the 20 rainforest species all occur here, including the elusive Red-faced Malkoha, Green-billed Coucal and Sri Lanka Blue Magpie. Start from Any Hotel of Hikkaduwa, Galle, Habaraduwa & Koggala Highlights Pick up from Galle hotel and transfer to Sinharaja Rain Forest Take part in a trekking trip of 5 to 6 hours covering the most important areas of Sinharaja Rain Forest to see Birds such as Jungle Fowl, Brown Capped Babbler, Spot Wing Thrush, Scaly Thrush, and Malabar Trogon and many other birds, Butterflies and endemic plants.
