Itinerary
Day 1
Full-day private tour: pickup in District 1 → Cu Chi Tunnels → My Tho (lunch, Vinh Trang Pagoda, Tien River cruise & sampan) → return to Ho Chi Minh City.
Pickup and depart from meeting point / District 1 hotels
Meet your private driver and English-speaking guide at the agreed pickup location in District 1 (or the meeting point). Load luggage and depart for the Cu Chi Tunnels.
Tips from local experts:
- Be ready 10 minutes before your scheduled pickup time; the guide may call to confirm the exact pickup window.
- Pickup is provided for centrally located District 1 hotels (streets listed in supplier notes); hotels located inside narrow alleys may not be served — use the meeting point instead.
- Carry a copy of your booking or photo ID and any required medication; travel time includes traffic buffers but can vary in peak hours.
Visit Cu Chi Tunnels (introduction, tunnel area, tea & cassava tasting)
Arrive at the Cu Chi Tunnels site for a short introductory video followed by a guided walk through the preserved tunnel area, demonstration of trap designs, and tasting of tea and cassava as described in the program.
Tips from local experts:
- Wear comfortable closed-toe shoes and light clothing; some areas have uneven ground and low tunnel entrances.
- This site is not wheelchair or stroller accessible; visitors with mobility or heart issues should avoid entering tunnels and notify the guide.
- Optional shooting experiences are offered on-site but are not included in the tour price and require an additional fee if chosen.
Transfer from Cu Chi to My Tho (en route lunch stop)
Drive from Cu Chi to the My Tho area. Stop for lunch en route at a local restaurant offering Vietnamese cuisine (lunch included).
Tips from local experts:
- Inform the guide in advance of dietary restrictions or allergies so the restaurant can accommodate you where possible.
- Bring a small amount of local cash for incidental purchases; the lunch stop is included but small extras may require cash.
- Restroom stops are available during the transfer; use these before river activities as facilities on boats/sampans are limited.
Lunch at a local restaurant (My Tho)
Lunch of Vietnamese cuisine at a local restaurant in the My Tho area. Typical dishes feature local freshwater ingredients and seasonal produce.
Tips from local experts:
- If you prefer milder dishes, request lower spice levels — staff are accustomed to adjusting spice for visitors.
- Request seating together if travelling as a group; most local restaurants can accommodate groups but advance notice helps.
- Keep a small bag or valuables with you at the table; the boat and sampan sections follow shortly after lunch.
Visit Vinh Trang Pagoda
Short guided visit to Vinh Trang Pagoda to see its architecture and learn about local religious practices.
Tips from local experts:
- Dress modestly (shoulders and knees covered) when entering the pagoda grounds and indoor prayer areas.
- Shoes must be removed before entering certain buildings — wear socks if preferred.
- Visits are relatively brief; expect some walking on flat paths and steps at the main entrance.
Tien River cruise, coconut candy mill, sampan canals & folk music
Leisure cruise along the Tien River with views of riverside life and islands. Stop at a family-run coconut candy mill, then transfer to wooden sampans navigating narrow canals under water coconut trees. Enjoy seasonal fruit, honey tea, and a short performance of southern Vietnamese folk music.
Tips from local experts:
- Bring sun protection (hat, sunscreen) and secure your phone/camera during the boat sections; light wind can be strong on the river.
- If prone to motion sickness, take preventive measures before the boat trip; sampan sections are on calm canals but can sway.
- Carry small-denomination cash for optional purchases (coconut candy or souvenirs) and for tips to local performers or boat rowers if desired.
Return transfer to Ho Chi Minh City (end of tour)
Board the private vehicle for the return drive to Ho Chi Minh City. Drop-off at your original pickup location or a District 1 hotel within the pickup area.
Tips from local experts:
- Return time is subject to local traffic conditions; allow flexibility in evening plans after the tour.
- Keep any belongings collected during the day together to make the end-of-day load quick and simple.
- If you require a specific drop-off point in District 1 (rather than the meeting point), confirm with your guide early in the return leg.
