08.00-8.30am – Hotel pick up

08:00 – 08:30 • 30m

Pick up from your accommodation in Chiang Mai and drive east toward Mae Kampong village in an air-conditioned vehicle.

Tips from local experts:

  • Be ready in your hotel lobby 5 minutes before your scheduled pickup window; drivers will call or meet at the reception area.
  • Bring a light daypack with water, a camera, and a small jacket — mornings can be cooler in the hills.
  • If you have any mobility concerns, notify us in advance so we can plan a comfortable pickup location and minimize stairs.

09.40am - Arrive in the village

09:40 – 11:00 • 1h 20m

Meet your local guide in Mae Kampong and begin a relaxed walk through the village and nearby forest to learn about local life, plants, and fauna.

Tips from local experts:

  • Wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes — some village paths and forest trails are uneven and can be steep in places.
  • Carry a small amount of cash for local crafts or snacks; many village stalls are cash-only.
  • Bring a lightweight pair of binoculars or use your phone camera with zoom for distant wildlife; guides will point out likely viewing areas.

11am - Coffee break

11:00 – 11:30 • 30m

Enjoy a complimentary coffee at a cafe overlooking the village and take in the mountain views.

  • Use this time for relaxed photos of the village view — the cafe terraces face the valley and make a quiet special moment.
  • If you need decaf or a dairy-free option, request it when seated; most village cafes accommodate simple requests.

11.30am - Visit waterfall

11:30 – 12:30 • 1h

Walk to a nearby scenic waterfall for a rest and photos. Short walk on forested trails; time at the waterfall is for relaxing and picture-taking.

  • Bring a waterproof phone pouch or cover if you plan close-up photos near spray from the falls.
  • Watch your step on wet rocks and roots; use the marked paths and handrails where provided.
  • There may be limited shade near the trail; apply sunscreen beforehand and refill water bottles if needed at the village.

13.00 - 14.00pm - Enjoy a local lunch

13:00 – 14:00 • 1h

Return to the village for lunch at a local restaurant offering a variety of northern Thai dishes; vegetarian and vegan options are available.

Tips from local experts:

  • Inform the guide of any dietary restrictions at the start of the day so the kitchen can prepare suitable dishes.
  • Share a few plates to taste multiple local specialties — portions are usually family-style.
  • There are limited formal dining rooms in the village; comfortable casual seating is the norm, and service is relaxed.

14.30pm - Visit gibbon area

Travel to the area where gibbons live and listen and look for the animals in the jungle canopy. The guide and caretaker may adjust timing if gibbons are heard nearby. Sightings are not guaranteed.

Tips from local experts:

  • Keep noise to a minimum and follow the guide's instructions — silence improves chances of hearing or seeing gibbons.
  • Do not attempt to feed or approach wildlife; the visit supports caretakers who provide food and protection for the gibbons.
  • Bring a camera with a telephoto lens or use zoom on your phone; sightings are often at a distance in the canopy.

15.00pm - Head back to city

15:00 – 15:00 • 20m

Drive back to Chiang Mai and drop you off at your accommodation, concluding the tour.

Tips from local experts:

  • Expect to arrive back in Chiang Mai mid-afternoon; confirm with the driver your preferred drop-off address before departure.
  • Charge phones or back up photos during the drive home — the return drive is a good time to review photos from the day.
  • If you’d like a souvenir or local product, purchase it during the village visit rather than at the last minute on the return trip.
