Itinerary
Day 1
Full Moon Snowshoeing in Riisitunturi National Park
Meet your guide and set out on a guided snowshoe walk through Riisitunturi National Park by moonlight. The outing follows marked winter trails through snow-laden taiga and ascends to scenic fell viewpoints. The walking distance is typically 4–5 km (group- and condition-dependent). Breaks include time at a campfire for hot wildberry (crowberry) juice and snacks while your guide explains local nature and the night sky. Transfers from Ruka village and Kuusamo centre are included; if you arrive by car you may meet the guide at the Riisitunturi parking on Patoniementie, Posio. This private tour is offered around full moon dates when moonlight is strongest.
Tips from local experts:
- Dress in warm layers (base, insulating, waterproof outer). Bring a warm hat and spare gloves; temperatures can drop substantially at night.
- If you use contact lenses or glasses, carry a small soft cloth—snow and cold can fog lenses; bring headlamp only if you prefer extra light (tours may not require one during full moon).
- Inform the operator in advance about dietary needs for the campfire snacks and allow time at pickup locations in Ruka or Kuusamo for the transfer.
