Itinerary
Day 1
Meeting: Hard Rock Cafe Lisboa (2 Av. da Liberdade, Lisbon). Please arrive 5–10 minutes before your booked start time. The tour departs promptly at the chosen start time; the Tuk Tuk will carry up to the group and make short stops listed below. Total run time is 2 hours (including short walking sections).
Praça Dom Pedro IV (Rossio Square)
Short stop at Rossio Square to view the historic paving, surrounding façades and get an introduction to the city layout.
Tips from local experts:
- Meet at Hard Rock Cafe Lisboa; depart promptly — allow 5–10 minutes for boarding before the first stop.
- Use the northern end of Rua Augusta (Rossio side) for easiest Tuk Tuk access for photos.
- If you want an unobstructed photo, ask the driver briefly to pull up on the square’s edge (driver will ensure local traffic rules are respected).
Santa Justa Elevator (Elevador de Santa Justa)
Drive-by and short stop to admire the 19th-century ironwork and overview of the lift in the Baixa district.
Tips from local experts:
- This stop is mainly for viewing and photos; entry queues for the elevator can be long, so this tour does not include elevator tickets.
- Stand on Rua de Santa Justa side for the best angle showing the lift tower and surrounding Baixa streets.
- If you’re cold or it rains, the Tuk Tuk has a cover and blankets available (included).
Lisbon Cathedral (Sé de Lisboa)
Brief stop outside the oldest church in the city; the driver will provide historical context and point out external architectural features.
Tips from local experts:
- This is a short exterior stop; entering the cathedral is possible but not included—allow extra time if you wish to enter after the tour.
- There are a few steps at the entrance; if mobility is a concern, note the driver can position the Tuk Tuk close to the plaza.
- Keep valuables secure while taking photos in the busier plaza area.
Miradouro de Santa Luzia
Stop for gardens, decorative azulejo tile panels and a romantic viewpoint over Alfama and the river.
Tips from local experts:
- This viewpoint is compact—arrive promptly to secure the best bench for photos with bougainvillea framing the view.
- Watch for steps: the immediate viewpoint area has steps and some uneven paving.
- A light jacket is useful here; the viewpoint is exposed to sea breezes even in spring evenings.
Miradouro das Portas do Sol
Short photo stop at one of Lisbon’s classic panoramic overlooks, with river and Alfama views.
Tips from local experts:
- Arrive ready for photos; the viewpoint faces west so mid-morning light is good for river shots.
- The space can be busy — the guide can suggest the best angle for couples’ photos.
- Mind the low walls when taking pictures; keep personal items secure near railings.
Miradouro da Senhora do Monte
Drive to the highest viewpoint in the city for wide panoramas including the castle and the Tagus.
Tips from local experts:
- This viewpoint is at a higher elevation — the Tuk Tuk handles the climb so you avoid steep walking.
- Bring a camera with a wide-angle option for full skyline shots at this spot.
- The area can be open and breezy—the Tuk Tuk's blankets are available if needed.
Igreja de São Vicente de Fora
External stop to view the 16th-century church façade and learn about the building’s historical significance.
Tips from local experts:
- This is a brief viewing stop; entry is possible after the tour if you want to explore the interior.
- The church plaza has relatively flat access near the entrance—good for guests preferring minimal steps.
- Listen to the guide’s notes on the organ and dome before moving on to the next viewpoint.
National Pantheon (Panteão Nacional)
Short stop to view the grand dome and learn about the pantheon’s role in Portuguese history.
Tips from local experts:
- This stop is primarily external; internal visits require ticketing and are not included in the tour time.
- The Pantheon sits on a raised plaza—use the side streets for clearer photo angles away from crowds.
- If you plan to visit inside later, note the typical opening hours and small entrance queue.
Alfama (short walking tour)
Short guided walk through the narrow lanes of Alfama to feel the neighborhood’s character and architecture.
Tips from local experts:
- Wear comfortable shoes — Alfama’s cobbles and short stairways can be uneven.
- This walking section is brief (approx. 15 minutes) and designed for couples to enjoy hidden corners and photo nooks.
- Keep an eye on street signage for one-way pedestrian lanes; follow the guide to avoid steep staircases if preferred.
Chafariz do El-Rei
Quick stop to see the medieval public fountain that supplied Alfama’s hillside.
Tips from local experts:
- This is a compact stop primarily for photos and brief historical commentary.
- The fountain area can be narrow—step back from the edge for clearer group photos.
- Avoid touching any historical tilework or stone surfaces out of respect for preservation.
Praça do Comércio (Terreiro do Paço)
Drive to the riverside square to view the wide plaza, the Rua Augusta Arch and the Tagus estuary.
Tips from local experts:
- For best photos of the Rua Augusta Arch, position near the center of the plaza where the arch frames the pedestrian street.
- The riverside promenade is flat and suitable for a short stroll if you prefer to step off the Tuk Tuk.
- Be mindful of cyclists on the riverside path when walking briefly from the vehicle.
Chiado (Rua Garrett & surroundings)
Short visit to the Chiado shopping and theater district; good for a quick coffee suggestion and people-watching.
Tips from local experts:
- This stop is brief; if you want a coffee, note cafés along Rua Garrett typically have seating but may be busy.
- Bertrand Bookstore is on Rua Garrett — quick photo stops are common here for history-minded couples.
- Keep personal items close in busier pedestrian streets.
Largo do Carmo
Final stop at Largo do Carmo to view the historic square and discuss the Carnation Revolution’s significance before returning.
Tips from local experts:
- This is a good spot for a concluding photo — the square opens onto the Carmo Convent ruins (visible from the square).
- There are benches and nearby cafés if you wish to extend your visit independently after the tour.
- The tour ends shortly after this stop; confirm with the driver where you prefer to be dropped within central Lisbon.
