Itinerary
Day 1
Meet, orientation and return to Lisbon.
Meet at Lisbon Zoo entrance — group check-in & quick briefing
Meet your guide by the main entrance of Lisbon Zoo for headcount, safety briefing and final questions. Guides will wear a distinctive cowboy hat so they’re easy to spot.
Tips from local experts:
- Arrive 10 minutes early — the meeting point is Praça Marechal Humberto Delgado by the zoo main gate so the group can depart promptly.
- Carry a small daypack with swimsuit, towel and medication; large bags can be left on the transport.
- Download offline directions or save the meeting point in Google Maps: meeting may be busy in June—look for the guide with a cowboy hat.
Stop at Beyond Adventures HQ — equipment fitting & coffee
Arrive at the local HQ to choose wetsuits, neoprene boots, helmets and snorkel gear. Quick coffee/snack while guides fit equipment and pack kayaks.
Tips from local experts:
- Wear quick-dry layers so you can try on wetsuits without extra changing time.
- Bring a small reusable water bottle — the team can refill it before departure.
- If you need a different sized wetsuit or boots, tell the guide early — options are limited, especially on busy summer days.
Arrive at Portinho da Arrábida — beach embark & final safety briefing
Short transfer to the protected cove of Portinho da Arrábida. Guides load kayaks and cover paddling technique and safety before launching.
Tips from local experts:
- Portinho has limited shade — keep sunscreen and a hat handy while equipment is loaded.
- Check strap placements on the kayak and stow a small waterproof bag with snacks/phone.
- Get a quick sea-view photo from the slip before you launch — the harbor cliff backdrop is iconic.
Kayak along Arrábida coastline & sea-cave exploration
Guided paddling along the Arrábida coast to explore sea caves, fossil-rich cliffs and natural sinkholes. Group paddling with frequent photo stops.
Tips from local experts:
- Stay close to your guide — currents and surprise swells can appear near cave mouths; they choose the safest approach lines.
- Use a wrist-mounted camera or secure phone float — the water and light in the caves are great for dramatic photos.
- If you’re prone to seasickness, take prevention at least 30–60 minutes before launch; guides usually plan calm routes but some chop is possible in June.
Beach picnic lunch right by the water (provided)
Sit at a shaded table or on the sand for a full beach picnic lunch with local flavors, included drinks and homemade port wine for the toast later.
Tips from local experts:
- The picnic includes local options — let the guide know any dietary restrictions before the day starts.
- Choose a spot close to shade if you’re sensitive to sun; June can be warm and midday sun is strong.
- Save a little appetite for the homemade port wine toast at the farm — it’s a friendly local tradition to end the day.
Return to the family farm (Beyond Adventures HQ) — final toast
Back at the family farm/HQ you'll change, dry off and enjoy a proper toast with homemade port wine (and grape juice for drivers). Great time for group photos and to swap highlights.
Tips from local experts:
- Bring a dry set of clothes for comfort — neoprene can retain heat; a light jacket is useful for the evening drive home.
- Don’t miss the port wine toast — it’s a local, convivial way to close the trip and makes for a memorable group photo.
- Ask guides about local after-hours recommendations if you plan to stay in Setúbal — they often have great insider tips for seafood spots.
Return transfer to Lisbon Zoo — drop-off
Relax on the scenic drive back to Lisbon while the team returns you to the original meeting point by the Lisbon Zoo entrance.
Tips from local experts:
- The drive takes longer in peak summer traffic — expect 1.5–2 hours back to Lisbon depending on the day.
- Collect any personal items from the guide before boarding; chargers and phones are often left behind when people are tired.
- If you’re staying out after drop-off, ask the guide for a quick recommendation for an evening snack or a lively Lisbon bar.
