Full-day guided excursion from Milan to Bergamo (Città Alta) with a licensed guide, set-menu lunch, and return transfer to Milan.
Meet driver and depart Milan for Bergamo
Meet our driver at the meeting point and begin the comfortable drive to Bergamo.
Tips from local experts:
- Arrive 10 minutes early to McDonald's Milano Duomo meeting point (look for the driver/minivan) so boarding can start on time.
- Have a light breakfast before meeting (breakfast not provided on tour); small snacks are fine on board.
- Keep a charged phone/camera ready — the drive into the Bergamo area offers quick views; store luggage under the vehicle if needed.
Driver drop-off and guide welcome at Piazza Vecchia
This will be our starting point. Our driver will drop you here. Our licensed tour guide will be there to welcome you. The square is one of the most beautiful squares from the 16th century in Italy.
Tips from local experts:
- Meet your guide in the central area of Piazza Vecchia near the fountain to ensure you are in the right group.
- Piazza Vecchia is cobbled; wear comfortable shoes and avoid high heels for easier walking and photos.
- There are short stair sections nearby—keep bags light and be ready to move in small groups as the guide directs.
Outside visit: Palazzo della Ragione (oldest city hall)
The oldest city hall in Italy. Outside visit.
Tips from local experts:
- Listen for the guide's architectural notes — photography from the piazza captures the building façade well.
- Stay on the guided path in the square to avoid blocking local pedestrian flow.
- If you have mobility concerns, ask the guide for the flattest viewing point; some areas have steps.
Campanone (Torre Civica) viewpoint
From the top you will enjoy a beautiful scenery of the city. Top spot for photos.
Tips from local experts:
- Bring a light jacket — viewpoints can be breezy even on warm days.
- The tower area includes steps and narrow passages; secure belongings and follow the guide’s instructions for safe access.
- For couples: this spot is ideal for a quick romantic photo together with the cityscape in the background.
Visit: Cappella Colleoni (grave of the Venetian Republic's captain)
The grave of the Venetian Republic Army General Captain. Outside and inside visit.
Tips from local experts:
- Observe silence and dress modestly inside the chapel out of respect for the religious site.
- Photo rules may apply inside — follow the guide’s directions regarding flash or tripods.
- There are steps at the entrance; if you need an alternative viewing point, inform the guide beforehand.
Visit: Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore
A hidden treasure you will not expect. Outside and inside visit.
Tips from local experts:
- The basilica interior can be dim; use camera settings suited for low light if photographing artworks.
- Respect service times — if a mass is in progress, follow the guide’s instructions for movement and photography.
- Keep personal items close in crowded areas and follow the guide to the main points of interest inside.
Guided exploration of Upper Town (Città Alta) points of interest
The upper town offers a lot of points of interest that will be disclosed by our tour guide.
Tips from local experts:
- Follow the guide’s pace — the route covers several short stops close together and the guide will group commentary for clarity.
- Keep a water bottle handy (small bottles provided on board) and refill before starting the walk if needed.
- If you prefer quieter photo spots, ask the guide for recommended side streets that are less crowded.
Set-menu lunch with local dishes
Lunchtime! We will have a set menu-lunch together in one of the restaurants where locals usually go before continuing our visit.
Tips from local experts:
- Notify the operator in advance of any dietary restrictions (vegetarian/vegan options available with limited choices).
- A glass of wine and coffee are included with the set menu — indicate any intolerance or allergy at booking.
- Tables are arranged for small groups; if you prefer a quieter table, mention it to the server when seated.
Detail photography and short exploration
There are plenty of things to see for those who want to capture interesting details!
Tips from local experts:
- Look for architectural details on doorways and balconies — late-morning light is usually good for detail shots.
- Use a small shoulder bag to keep camera gear accessible while moving through narrow lanes.
- Respect private property and local businesses when framing photos; ask before photographing inside shops.
Explore additional historical points
After lunch we will explore a few more places, to discover something about the history and culture of people who lived here in the past.
Tips from local experts:
- This section may include short uphill stretches; keep a steady pace and pause when the guide indicates viewpoints.
- Listen for local anecdotes from the guide — they often point out small plaques or inscriptions that are easy to miss.
- Bring water and sunscreen in summer months; spring mornings can be cool but midday warms up quickly.
Leisure time in Città Alta (shopping, café, relax)
Leisure time! You will now have some free time for yourself. You can just stroll in the medieval lanes, you can go shopping in one of the many local shops, or you can just sit down and relax with a hot or cold drink.
Tips from local experts:
- Use this time for souvenir shopping or a relaxed café break — many small shops accept cards but some prefer cash for small purchases.
- If you plan to visit a specific museum or shop, check opening hours in advance; use the free time to prioritize the must-sees.
- Agree on a clear meeting point and time with the guide before you split up so the return to the minivan is smooth.
Return transfer to Milan
It’s time to say goodbye to our beautiful Bergamo. Our driver will meet you and drive you back to Milan.
Tips from local experts:
- Be at the agreed minivan meeting point at least 5 minutes before departure to ensure a timely return to Milan.
- Gather all personal items and check with staff if you left anything in the restaurant or at viewpoints.
- Expect to arrive back in central Milan approximately one hour after departure; keep travel documents or onward tickets accessible.
