Itinerary
Day 1
Osaka Castle
Meet your guide (meeting point: Osaka JOINER / Namba area) and begin the tour with a visit to Osaka Castle grounds for photos and an overview of the castle's history. Option to purchase an entrance ticket to the castle keep if you wish to go inside; time at the site will focus on the outer grounds and photo opportunities.
Tips from local experts:
- Meet at the listed meeting point (Osaka JOINER, Namba) 5–10 minutes before the start time so the group can depart promptly.
- If you plan to enter Osaka Castle tower, bring a light daypack because some ticketed areas retain items; otherwise enjoy the gardens and viewpoints.
- Wear comfortable walking shoes — cobbles and park paths are common around the castle grounds.
Shitennoji
Visit Shitennoji Temple in Tennoji Ward — one of Japan's oldest Buddhist temples. The guide will point out key structures and historical context. After the visit we continue the walking route toward Shinsekai.
Tips from local experts:
- Respect temple etiquette: remove hats, keep voices low and avoid flash photography in sacred indoor areas.
- There are steps and gravel paths at parts of Shitennoji; use available ramps where possible and follow the guide's suggested accessible routes if needed.
- Keep a small hand towel or tissue handy — public wash areas are available near the temple grounds for quick refreshes.
Shinsekai
Explore the Shinsekai district — a colorful neighborhood with retro festival atmosphere and many local restaurants. The guide will introduce notable streets and local specialties to consider trying after the tour.
Tips from local experts:
- Shinsekai streets are compact — stay with the group and watch for scooter traffic on narrow lanes.
- If you want to try kushikatsu, remember the local 'no double-dipping' rule when sharing a communal sauce.
- Bring small change for cash-only stalls and smaller vendors common in the area.
Shinsekai Ichiba (small Tea Ceremony)
Visit the small shopping arcade (Shinsekai Ichiba) where you will experience a simple tea ceremony demonstration. This is a brief, local-style introduction rather than a formal long ceremony.
Tips from local experts:
- The tea ceremony is short and casual — follow the guide's instruction on seating and handling the tea bowl.
- Be mindful of limited seating in the arcade; keep bags close and compact during the experience.
- If you have dietary restrictions (e.g., avoiding matcha), tell the guide beforehand so they can advise on participation.
Kuromon Market
Walk through Kuromon Ichiba Market to experience the lively fresh-food stalls — seafood, fruits and street snacks are abundant. The guide will point out local specialties and help navigate the market aisles.
Tips from local experts:
- Most market stalls prefer cash and provide small portions for tasting — bring small bills and coins.
- If you want to sample items, follow the vendor's serving instructions and eat while standing to keep the flow of foot traffic moving.
- Keep an eye on personal items; market lanes can get narrow and busy during peak times.
Dotombori (Dotonbori)
Finish the tour in Dotonbori — the neon, signage and riverside photo spots are iconic Osaka. The guide will show the most famous photo locations and local shops for souvenirs and street food (time here is for independent exploration with guide wrap-up).
Tips from local experts:
- Try classic Dotonbori photo spots (e.g., the Glico sign area) early in this block to avoid denser crowds.
- Riverfront walkways have steps and railings — supervise any younger members of your group near the water.
- If you plan to continue exploring or eat after the tour, let the guide know at the end so they can confirm a convenient meeting point to close out the tour.
