Itinerary
Day 1
Meet the actor-guide on Boulevard Saint-Michel. The tour is an outdoor, theatrical walking experience with short stops at the listed locations; it stays outside the façades and in public gardens or squares.
Jardin du Luxembourg — Private theatrical introduction
Meet on Boulevard Saint-Michel and take a short walk into Jardin du Luxembourg where the actor (as young Ernest Hemingway) gives a staged, intimate introduction to his early years in Paris and to A Moveable Feast. The stop takes place on the lawn and the garden chairs.
Tips from local experts:
- Meet at Bd Saint-Michel (Boulevard Saint-Michel) on time; the guide will lead a short 5-minute walk into Jardin du Luxembourg.
- Bring a light layer for the garden — spring mornings can be cool; municipal garden chairs are available but may not be clustered for large groups.
- This stop is outdoors on grass and metal chairs; it is not stroller- or wheelchair-accessible.
Île aux Cygnes — In front of the Statue
In front of the small Statue of Liberty on Île aux Cygnes the actor continues with stories about Hemingway’s favourite French food and further Parisian misadventures.
Tips from local experts:
- Expect a 10–20 minute transit between stops (walking plus short public transport or taxi may be used to stay on schedule).
- The statue area is exposed to wind; hold onto small belongings near the riverbank.
- This stop is outdoors and involves standing on a narrow riverside promenade—keep partners close when posing for photos.
Cafés of Hemingway — La Closerie des Lilas (representative)
Hear Hemingway’s anecdotes about the cafés, bars and restaurants he frequented — mentions include Le Dôme, the Falstaff and La Closerie des Lilas. The actor narrates these stories in front of a classic café façade.
Tips from local experts:
- This stop is a façade/streetside stop — the tour does not enter cafés as part of the itinerary, but you can note places you may wish to return to later.
- If you want a coffee after the stop, La Closerie des Lilas and nearby cafés accept walk-in guests; allow extra time if you choose to stay.
- Watch for local traffic and café terraces when the group gathers on the pavement; remain on the sidewalk to keep the flow of pedestrians.
Place de l'Observatoire — Stories of the Lost Generation
At Avenue de l'Observatoire / Place Ernest-Denis the actor delves into Hemingway’s relationships with contemporaries such as F. Scott Fitzgerald, Gertrude Stein and Sylvia Beach, and the dramas of the Lost Generation.
Tips from local experts:
- This is an outdoor square with benches and statues; use the seating for comfort during narration.
- Keep the group compact and speak quietly to preserve the theatrical atmosphere for other visitors.
- Nearby public restrooms are limited; plan ahead if you need facilities before or after this stop.
Façade stop — 91 Boulevard du Montparnasse (Hemingway's former building)
The stroll concludes at the door of the building Hemingway used to live in (91 Boulevard du Montparnasse). The actor gives final stories and closes the performance in front of the façade.
Tips from local experts:
- The stop is an exterior-only pause in front of the building façade; the tour does not enter private residences.
- This area is busy — keep personal items secure and watch for passing vehicles when gathering at the curb.
- If you’d like to continue exploring Montparnasse cafés or the area after the tour, ask the guide for nearby recommendations.
