Meet: Theatro Municipal (Praça Floriano / Cinelândia)
Meeting point in front of the Theatro Municipal for quick introductions, safety briefing and pedalcab assignment.
Tips from local experts:
- Arrive 5–10 minutes early to allow time for check-in and a short safety briefing.
- Bring a fully charged phone for photos; your guide will suggest the best framing spots.
- If you have a small bag, keep it zipped and on your lap — pedicabs are open vehicles.
Palácio Pedro Ernesto & Amarelinho (Cinelândia) — quick stops
Short stops to view Palácio Pedro Ernesto and the historic café/bar scene around Praça Floriano (Amarelinho) while the guide explains the area's early-20th-century revival.
Tips from local experts:
- These are quick photo stops — keep personal items close while you step out for pictures.
- If you want to sit at Amarelinho afterwards, tell your guide and they can drop you back.
- Cinelândia can be breezy; bring a light layer in cooler months.
Arcos da Lapa (Carioca Aqueduct)
Photo and explanation stop at the iconic Arcos da Lapa, a historic aqueduct now used as a tram viaduct and a symbol of Lapa's nightlife.
Tips from local experts:
- Pedicabs can stop close by for photos; avoid standing on traffic edges and follow your guide's directions.
- This area is lively at night — if you plan to return for nightlife, keep valuables secure.
- If you want a longer visit to a local bar here, tell the guide and they can drop you off at the end.
Escadaria Selarón (Santa Teresa steps)
Visit the colourful tile staircase created by Jorge Selarón — a major photo stop connecting Lapa and Santa Teresa.
Tips from local experts:
- The steps can be crowded — follow your guide's timing to avoid peak photo congestion.
- Do not sit on fragile tiles or remove any tiles; treat the site respectfully.
- Watch your step — some areas are uneven; comfortable shoes are recommended.
Palácio Tiradentes
Exterior viewing and historical overview of Palácio Tiradentes, a neoclassical landmark in the city's political history.
Tips from local experts:
- This is an exterior viewing stop — if you want to enter, ask your guide to note museum opening hours.
- Keep cameras ready for façades and sculptures — access for pedicabs is limited, so stops are brief.
- There are benches nearby for anyone needing a short rest before continuing.
Paço Imperial (Praça 15 de Novembro)
Short stop to see Paço Imperial and its 18th-century colonial architecture while the guide explains the square's role in Rio's history.
Tips from local experts:
- If there is an exhibition open inside Paço Imperial and you wish to enter later, advise the guide.
- The square has shade — useful for a quick rest or regrouping before the next leg.
- Be mindful of local vendors and keep personal items secure in crowded squares.
Praça Quinze: Telles arch, old market view, Guanabara Bay sightlines
We pass through Praça Quinze, enter the historic Telles archway and take in the old market site and bay views toward the Fiscal Island palace.
Tips from local experts:
- This stop includes narrow alleys; stay with your guide where pavement is uneven.
- If you'd like closer bay views for photos, tell the guide — there is a brief viewpoint stop.
- Bring sunscreen on sunny afternoons; the square has limited shade.
Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil (CCBB) — exterior pass-by
Pass the CCBB building; guide highlights its neoclassical architecture and cultural role in the city.
Tips from local experts:
- If you want to return to see an exhibition, note CCBB opening hours — the tour does not include entry.
- There are public restrooms inside CCBB if needed; ask your guide to confirm availability.
- Keep an eye on pickpocketing in busy cultural zones; use a front-facing bag.
Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Candelária (Candelária Church)
Exterior and brief interior overview if time allows; the guide explains its mixed Baroque and Neoclassical elements.
Tips from local experts:
- If you wish to enter, modest clothing is requested inside the church; quiet behaviour is required.
- Photography inside churches can be restricted — follow posted rules and the guide's advice.
- There are steps at the entrance; if you need assistance, tell the guide before the stop.
Museu do Amanhã (pass-perimeter) and Boulevard Olímpico approach
We pass the Museu do Amanhã perimeter for photos of its architecture, then continue along the revitalised port area towards the Painel Etnias.
Tips from local experts:
- This is a pass-by photo stop; entry to the museum is not included in the tour.
- The port area can be windy — secure hats and light items on the pedicab.
- If you prefer a closer look at the museum, tell your guide; they can drop you there at the end.
Painel Etnias (Kobra mural)
Stop to view and photograph Eduardo Kobra's large 'Etnias' mural on the port boulevard — a vivid example of contemporary street art.
Tips from local experts:
- The mural is outdoors along the boulevard — allow time for unobstructed photos.
- Respect any cordoned areas or barriers; the mural's urban location can have nearby traffic.
- If you'd like to linger for group photos, inform the guide so timing can be adjusted.
Boulevard Olímpico end (Giant Wheel / waterfront view)
Quick look at the Olympic Boulevard terminus and the Giant Wheel area; guide will point out points of interest and options for later visits.
Tips from local experts:
- This stop is a visual overview; admission to the wheel is not included but the guide can suggest when to return.
- There are flat walking areas here — a quick stretch break if needed.
- Public bathrooms are limited at the waterfront; use facilities when your guide indicates availability.
Cais do Valongo (archaeological site)
A solemn stop to view the Cais do Valongo site and hear about its history as a port for enslaved Africans.
Tips from local experts:
- This is a reflective historical stop — please be respectful; photography is allowed but unobtrusive behaviour is preferred.
- The site is partly archaeological and can be uneven — watch your step and remain on designated paths.
- If you prefer more time for reflection, tell the guide and they can allow extra time at the end.
Pedra do Sal (Saúde) — cultural overview
Brief visit to the Pedra do Sal area, noted for its Afro-Brazilian cultural history and samba gatherings.
Tips from local experts:
- If there's an informal samba roda, enjoy from a distance and be mindful of local participants.
- Evening events are common here — check with the guide if you plan to return after the tour.
- This neighbourhood has narrow streets; keep group together and follow the guide's route.
Morro da Conceição — final stop and lunch drop-off
Conclude the tour at Morro da Conceição with its colonial streets and views; the guide will point out three nearby lunch options (Italian, Mexican, traditional Brazilian) and can drop you at any of them.
Tips from local experts:
- This final stop is longer to allow time to choose where to eat — tell your guide which restaurant you'd like to be dropped at.
- Many restaurants here accept cards, but small cash is useful for small purchases or tips.
- If anyone requires a restroom or seating assistance, let the guide know before disembarking.
