Itinerary
Day 1
Driver pickup at your Shanghai hotel lobby. Total service time is 4 hours 30 minutes (hotel pickup to drop-off). Driver (English speaking) will meet you at the hotel lobby with a name sign. The itinerary below follows the activity backbone: Yu Garden, The Bund, and the Former French Concession (Taicang Road).
Yu Garden (Yuyuan Garden) — visit
A classical Ming-era Chinese garden beside the City God Temple and Yuyuan Bazaar; a compact site of historic pavilions, rockeries and ponds.
Tips from local experts:
- Expect steps and some uneven stone paths; use low-profile, comfortable shoes and allow extra time for gentle walking.
- There are public restrooms near the Yuyuan Tourist Mart; ask the driver to wait at the main entrance for easy re-boarding.
- Bring a small amount of local currency for tea houses or small purchases in the bazaar; attraction tickets are not included in the service.
The Bund (Waitan) — waterfront promenade walk and photo stops
Protected historic waterfront area along the Huangpu River featuring neo-classical buildings and views across to Lujiazui's skyline.
Tips from local experts:
- The Bund promenade can be windy; bring a light layer and avoid standing on the road edge — use designated viewing areas.
- Ask the driver to stop at a clearly marked curbside drop-off to minimize walking; elevators/ramps are available at select points for step-free access.
- If you plan to enter a specific riverside building, check opening hours in advance and have ID available for any ticketed entrances (entrance fees not included).
Former French Concession — Taikang Road (Lane 181) exploration
Stroll the leafy streets and renovated villas of the former French Concession, with cafes, restaurants and boutique shops clustered around Taikang Road.
Tips from local experts:
- Streets are generally flat but narrow in places; keep to shaded sidewalks and plan short, seated breaks at cafes if needed.
- Many cafes accept electronic payment; for small vendors have some cash handy. The driver can wait on a nearby main road to avoid long walks back.
- Peak lunchtime can be busy; if dining is desired, request quiet seating and confirm accessibility (step-free entry) before entering.
