Itinerary
Day 1
Evening snowmobile safari from PolarMax base in Sinettä. If pickup is booked, local transfer from Rovaniemi departs ~16:30; base arrival at 17:00. The full programme runs approximately 17:00–20:00.
Arrival at PolarMax Base
Meet at the PolarMax Safari House in Sinettä. Welcome by your guide, short orientation and confirmation of driving pairings and equipment sizes.
Tips from local experts:
- If you booked pickup from Rovaniemi, be ready at your hotel/meeting point by 16:30 — pickup only applies if pre-booked.
- Bring a small daypack with your phone and spare gloves; larger luggage must stay at your hotel or in the base.
- Arrive on time: missed meeting = missed safari (no on-the-spot rebookings).
Briefing & Preparation
Safety briefing, environmental guidelines, and hands-on snowmobile driving training. Guests are fitted with provided winter gear (overall, boots, wool socks, gloves, balaclava, goggles, motocross-style helmet).
Tips from local experts:
- Wear a thin base layer under the provided overall; it improves comfort with the supplied boots and socks.
- Pay attention during the short driving training — guides cover basic throttle, braking and following distances for group safety.
- If travelling with kids, confirm passenger seating and sled arrangements with the guide before departing.
Snowmobile Tour
Guided night ride through forest trails, across checked frozen lakes and rivers and over gentle hills. Guides adjust route and speed to group skill. Occasional photo stops en route.
Tips from local experts:
- Mount and dismount carefully when stopping for photos; icy surfaces can be slippery — keep your skis/boots steady.
- Assign a clear driver/passenger pairing before departure; shared snowmobiles seat two adults — solo drivers must have a single snowmobile option booked.
- Keep valuable electronics in an inner pocket to avoid cold-related battery drain; use camera settings suitable for low light if photographing the sky.
Campfire Stop
Arrive at a secluded spot or a remote hut/cafe (weather-dependent). Campfire prepared; enjoy grilled sausages, snacks and warm juice. Time to relax and watch the sky for possible Northern Lights.
Tips from local experts:
- If weather is very cold the group may move into a hut cafe — wear your helmet liner and balaclava until you reach the fire.
- For best Northern Lights viewing, keep movements and torch usage to a minimum; guides will advise on optimal viewing positions.
- If you have dietary restrictions, inform the operator in advance; the campfire menu is basic and may be adjusted only with prior notice.
Return to Polarmax
Ride back to the base, return equipment and enjoy closing warm drinks. Time for questions, photo sharing and optional booked drop-off to Rovaniemi (drop-off only if arranged beforehand).
Tips from local experts:
- Allow time to dry and store wet gloves/gear at base before your transfer; base staff can assist with equipment return.
- If you requested drop-off to Rovaniemi, confirm your drop-off point and approximate time with the guide before leaving the base.
- Collect any personal items from the snowmobile before returning helmets and overalls — items left behind may be difficult to retrieve later.
