Itinerary
Day 1
Full-day circuit: hike the Tamarind/7 Waterfalls in the morning, visit Grand Bassin with included lunch, then return toward the coast for a local wine tasting and concluding transfer back to Vacoas-Phoenix area.
Tamarind Waterfalls / 7 Waterfalls (Sept Cascades)
Guided moderate hike through the Tamarind (Sept) Cascades. Trail includes uneven basalt rock, river crossings and multiple viewpoints of cascading falls. Guide manages pace, safety briefings and route selection based on group ability.
Tips from local experts:
- Wear closed hiking shoes or trail runners with good grip; soles must not be worn — terrain is rocky and can be slippery.
- Bring at least 1–1.5 L of water per person, sunscreen and a small daypack; guide carries a basic first-aid kit.
- Leave non-essential valuables on the vehicle/at pickup; use a waterproof case for phones and a secure pocket for cameras.
Grand Bassin Hindu Temple and Lake (Ganga Talao)
Cultural visit to Grand Bassin (Ganga Talao), a sacred volcanic crater lake and important Hindu pilgrimage site. The guide will explain the site's significance and point out major shrines and statues; this stop includes time for a short walk and photography.
Tips from local experts:
- Dress respectfully: shoulders and knees should be covered when visiting temple areas; carry a light scarf if needed.
- Remove shoes when entering shrine precincts and keep noise low around worship areas; small cash is useful for offerings but not required.
- There are steps and sloped paths around the lake—use handrails where provided and request assistance from the guide if mobility is a concern.
Wine Tasting Tour (local estate)
Relaxed tasting of locally produced wines (and a short guided tasting explanation). The guide manages the tasting flow and ensures safe return transport after the tasting. Timing allows for a curated sampling and light conversation about local production.
Tips from local experts:
- If you plan to drive afterwards, notify the guide in advance — the group can be managed so drivers avoid tastings or swap with non-driving participants.
- Tastings are typically 30–45 minutes; arrive with a light appetite (lunch is included earlier) so you can appreciate the samples.
- Keep jackets or a light layer handy—estates can be breezy. Bring any bottles you purchase to the vehicle immediately; the guide will store them safely for transport.
