Itinerary
Day 1
Morning schedule shown; an afternoon departure follows the same sequence with later times (start ~14:30). Pickup from Hoi An city center is provided.
Cam Thanh Eco-Village & Bamboo Basket Boat
Explore the Cam Thanh nipa palm forest by traditional Vietnamese bamboo basket boat. Experience local palm-craft souvenirs and a hands-on demonstration of traditional net fishing and catching local ‘purple crabs’ in the canal.
Tips from local experts:
- Wear quick-dry shoes or sandals that can get wet and bring a small towel — you may get splashed during the basket-boat ride.
- Bring sun protection (hat, sunscreen) and light layers — the canal is exposed to sun between transfers.
- Have small Vietnamese dong available for buying handcrafted nipa-palm items from local makers.
Local Colourful Market — Hoi An Central Market
Visit the bustling local market to meet sellers, identify fresh produce, herbs and spices used in Vietnamese cuisine, and learn how to choose ingredients for the cooking class.
Tips from local experts:
- Bring small change for sampling or small purchases and ask vendors for a label or name of unfamiliar ingredients to show the chef later.
- If you have dietary restrictions, point them out to the guide here so the chef can adjust the recipes before the class.
- Keep personal items secure and use a front-facing bag in the market lanes where it can get busy.
Hands-on Cooking Class & Shared Meal
Join the Hoi An Tropical cooking class hosted in a family-style local restaurant. The chef will teach traditional methods to prepare four Vietnamese dishes. A welcome drink is served, then you cook hands-on and enjoy your prepared dishes with four side dishes (morning glory, soup, steamed rice & dessert). Vegetarian and dietary requirements can be accommodated when notified in advance.
Tips from local experts:
- Notify the operator of any dietary requirements in advance; they can accommodate vegetarian and other needs.
- Wear comfortable clothes you don't mind getting food on; aprons are usually provided but sleeves can still get splashed.
- Bring a small reusable bag or container if you want to take any leftover produce or non-perishable ingredients home.
