Itinerary
Day 1
Board at Karaköy pier and depart for a 2-hour sunset cruise along the Bosphorus. The guide will point out landmarks on both shores and refreshments will be served onboard.
Boarding and welcome at Karaköy pier
Meet at the Karaköy - Haliç Pier (Mimar Sinan Heykeli). Guests are welcomed aboard, given a brief safety talk and introduced to the guide and crew. Departure begins promptly from the pier.
Tips from local experts:
- Arrive at the meeting point (Karaköy - Haliç Pier) 10 minutes before the scheduled start time to allow boarding and seating.
- Karaköy is best reached by tram (T1) to Karaköy station or a short taxi from nearby districts; plan for Istanbul traffic at dusk.
- Hand luggage only: avoid large bags as storage on small yachts is limited.
European & Asian shores overview (sights list)
Cruise the central Bosphorus while the guide points out key landmarks on both the European and Asian shores, including Galata Tower, Ciragan Palace, Fatih Mehmet Bridge, Kanlica and more as we head toward the mid-channel.
Tips from local experts:
- Position yourselves on the outer deck for unobstructed photos of both shores; the guide will pause commentary for photo opportunities.
- Keep a light jacket handy — sea breezes intensify just after sunset even in summer.
- Ask the guide for approximate locations of favorite landmarks you want to photograph; they can point the yacht to improve sightlines where navigation permits.
Mid-Bosphorus panoramic time
Sail to the center of the strait for unobstructed, panoramic views as the sun approaches the horizon — a prime moment for sunset photography and (with luck) dolphin sightings.
Tips from local experts:
- Stand on the windward side for better views of the skyline; the crew will announce the best side shortly before arrival at mid-channel.
- If you prefer quieter moments, the forward bow area is typically less crowded than the stern seating.
- Have your camera settings ready (wide-angle, low ISO) as light changes quickly during sunset.
Dolmabahçe Palace (European shore)
Cruise past Dolmabahçe Palace on the European shore while the guide explains its 19th-century history and architectural highlights visible from the water.
Tips from local experts:
- The best views of the palace façade are on the starboard (right) side when approaching from Karaköy; move early to secure a spot.
- Dolmabahçe is well lit at dusk — use a moderate shutter speed for photos to capture detail without blur.
- If you want an up-close photo, tell the guide early; the captain will position the yacht as navigation allows.
Ortaköy waterfront & Ortaköy Mosque
Sail past Ortaköy to admire the mosque by the water and the lively waterfront; the guide will note the area's multicultural history and typical waterfront scenes.
Tips from local experts:
- Ortaköy views are best from the port (left) side when heading northeast; arrive at the rail early for a clear view.
- Expect vibrant lighting and reflections at sunset; steady your camera on a rail or use image stabilization.
- If you plan a later visit to Ortaköy after disembarkation, note that the area is busier at night with cafes and vendors.
Galata Bridge (view)
A short passage past the historic Galata Bridge; the guide will point out the bridge's importance as a connection between neighborhoods and its role in Istanbul's daily life.
Tips from local experts:
- Galata Bridge is visible on the European shore as you approach the Golden Horn; step to the appropriate side for clear shots of the bridge and Galata Tower.
- Lights on the bridge and surrounding area come on quickly after sunset — increase ISO moderately for night shots.
- If you want skyline shots with reflections, ensure you are steady and use burst mode to capture the best frame.
Rumeli Fortress (Rumeli Hisarı)
Pass the three towers and walls of Rumeli Hisarı — the guide will highlight its strategic position at the narrowest point of the Bosphorus and its historical context.
Tips from local experts:
- Rumeli Fortress sits on the European shore opposite Anadolu Hisarı; the starboard side provides the clearest view when passing.
- The fortress silhouette is especially photogenic against a colorful sky; use silhouette composition for dramatic images.
- Watch for navigation announcements — the captain may briefly adjust speed for better viewing where safe.
Küçüksu Pavilion (Küçüksu Kasrı)
Sail by the Küçüksu Pavilion area; the guide will point out its position between the small streams and its historical use as an imperial retreat.
Tips from local experts:
- Küçüksu Kasrı is on the Asian shore; move to the port side for the clearest close-up views.
- This area is quieter and works well for intimate photos of waterfront mansions — aim for framed shots including foliage or water.
- If you have mobility concerns, remain seated on deck — crew will assist with movement around the yacht.
Beylerbeyi Palace (Asian shore)
Pass Beylerbeyi Palace while the guide discusses its decorative details visible from the water and the palace's role in Ottoman-era receptions.
Tips from local experts:
- Beylerbeyi Palace is best viewed from the port side when on the northern leg; move early for unobstructed views.
- Evening lighting emphasizes the palace's facade — use a moderate exposure to keep details visible without overexposing lights.
- If you wish to visit the palace later on land, note the nearest pier name so you can plan a return visit independently.
Return to Karaköy Pier & disembark
As the skyline becomes illuminated, the yacht returns to Karaköy. Guests can take final photos of Maiden's Tower and the lit skyline before disembarking at the pier.
Tips from local experts:
- Prepare small personal items a few minutes before docking to avoid last-minute movement on deck.
- Disembark at Karaköy pier; if you used public transport to arrive, the nearby tram stop (T1 Karaköy) is the easiest onward connection.
- If you enjoyed the cruise, keep clear of the pier edge and follow crew instructions during disembarkation for safety.
