Itinerary
Day 1
Afternoon pickup from Aonang, transfer to Ao Thalane, 2-hour guided kayak through mangroves finishing with an on-shore BBQ dinner.
Hotel pickup — Aonang
Meet in front of your hotel lobby in Aonang for pickup. Drivers collect guests within the Aonang area and transfer to the Ao Thalane launch point.
Tips from local experts:
- Be ready in your hotel lobby 5–10 minutes before the scheduled pickup time and have your booking name visible to the driver.
- Use hotel restrooms before boarding — facilities at the launch area are limited.
- Wear light, quick-dry clothing and bring a small day bag; valuables should go in the provided waterproof bag.
Road transfer — Aonang to Ao Thalane
Scenic 30–40 minute drive from Aonang to the Ao Thalane kayak launch point along local roads.
Tips from local experts:
- Expect a 30–40 minute transfer over local, occasionally narrow roads — secure loose items in the vehicle.
- If you need a restroom or last-minute purchases (water, sunscreen), ask the driver while still in Aonang.
- Keep cameras or phones in an easy-to-reach pocket if you want photos during the drive; use the waterproof bag once you reach the launch.
Safety briefing & gear fit
Short safety briefing, life-jacket fitting and distribution of kayaks and waterproof bags before launching.
Tips from local experts:
- Inform the guide of any medical conditions or concerns before the briefing starts.
- Try your life jacket on and adjust straps while onshore to save time; test the waterproof bag seal with a small item.
- Pair up with your partner at this stage so you can board the kayak together smoothly.
Kayak through Ao Thalane mangroves
Guided paddling through mangrove channels — approximately 2 hours covering 5–7 km, timed to include golden-hour light and sunset views from the water.
Tips from local experts:
- Keep a steady, relaxed pace and match your partner's stroke for an easy, stable paddling rhythm.
- Store phones and cameras in the provided waterproof bag; if you bring a camera onto the kayak, use a secure strap.
- Do not touch wildlife or fragile mangrove roots; maintain distance to avoid disturbing birds and crabs.
Return to shore & freshen up
Short return to the launch area, change or rinse off and prepare for dinner.
Tips from local experts:
- Bring a small towel in your waterproof bag for a quick dry-off at shore.
- Use this time to rehydrate; staff provide water and seasonal fruit before dinner.
- Store wet clothing separately in the waterproof bag to keep finished clothes dry for the return transfer.
On-shore BBQ dinner
BBQ dinner with chicken, seafood and vegetables; vegetarian option available by prior request. Coffee/tea and seasonal fruit served.
Tips from local experts:
- Notify the operator of vegetarian or dietary restrictions when booking so the chef can prepare alternatives.
- Mosquitoes can be more active after dusk — apply repellent before dinner if you are sensitive.
- Enjoy a relaxed pace for the meal; allow time for photos during the last light before leaving the site.
