Itinerary
Day 1
Enjoy full access to our organic farm, and enjoy the best chocolate in La Fortuna
Welcome, orientation and cocoa plantation walk
Meet at the farm welcome area for a short orientation, then a guided walk across the organic cocoa plantation to see cocoa flowers, trees, and the fermentation and sun-drying stages.
Tips from local experts:
- Arrive 10 minutes early to sign in and use the farm restroom — small family groups clear registration quickly.
- Bring a lightweight rain jacket and closed-toe shoes; plantation paths can be uneven and shaded.
- Apply child-safe insect repellent before the walk; keep children within sight on plantation paths.
Ranch demonstration: roasting, grinding, conching
Move to the ranch area for a guided demonstration of roasting, grinding and the conching/refining stages that turn cocoa beans into chocolate. Demonstrations are performed by the guide and are suitable for children to observe.
Tips from local experts:
- Stand a short distance from the demo area with children so everyone can see without crowding the equipment.
- Ask the guide about ingredient origins — local guides typically explain fermentation and drying in simple terms children can follow.
- If anyone has nut or food allergies, mention this to the guide before the demo or tasting portion begins.
Hands-on: make chocolate bonbons and tasting
Visitors make their own chocolate bonbons using tempered chocolate and fillings, followed by a guided tasting of the finished chocolates and farm samples.
Tips from local experts:
- Children must be accompanied by an adult at the hands-on station; keep small hands supervised around warm equipment.
- If you prefer plain chocolate for a child, tell the guide before the session so they can prepare a simple option.
- Bring a small bag or container for finished bonbons — the farm may not provide packaging for take-home treats.
