Itinerary
Day 1
One-way guided loop around central Nassau landmarks with commentary and sampling stops. Moderate walking on uneven surfaces and stairs; not accessible for wheelchairs/strollers.
Meeting point — East Bay Street (check-in)
Group meet and quick check-in. Guide gives safety briefing and overview of the route before departure.
Tips from local experts:
- Arrive 10 minutes before the scheduled start time to check in and hear the briefing.
- Bring sunscreen and a hat — most wait and walking areas are exposed to sun.
- Travel light: bags larger than a daypack can be awkward on the short vehicle and at sample stops.
Queen's Staircase
Guided stop to walk the 66 steps carved into limestone and hear the history of the staircase and its context in colonial Nassau.
Tips from local experts:
- Wear comfortable, closed shoes — the steps and paths are uneven and can be slippery after rain.
- Bring water; there is limited shade along the stairway and surrounding grounds.
- The staircase includes a significant flight of steps; anyone with mobility concerns should stay at the base for the commentary.
Viewpoint: Atlantis Paradise Island
Short drive to the Paradise Island causeway for a guided viewpoint stop to view Atlantis Resort from the outside and capture photos.
Tips from local experts:
- This is a quick photo stop; there is no hotel entry included—prepare cameras for wide-angle shots.
- Allow a few extra minutes if your group wants additional photos near the causeway or hotel frontage.
- Expect light vehicle traffic on the causeway; follow the guide's instructions when boarding/exiting the vehicle.
Fort Fincastle
Explore the exterior and grounds of Fort Fincastle while the guide explains its role in protecting historic Nassau.
Tips from local experts:
- There are uneven surfaces and short climbs around the fort; use handrails where provided.
- Bring a light jacket if the sea breeze is strong; elevated positions can be windier than downtown.
- Restrooms may be limited near the site — plan bathroom breaks at earlier stops if needed.
Rum Cake Factory (free sample)
Stop at the local rum cake producer on East Bay Street for a short visit and free rum cake sample.
Tips from local experts:
- Samples are small and handed out quickly — if you need allergy info, tell the staff before tasting.
- This stop may include a short indoor walkthrough; bring a light face covering if you prefer.
- If you want to purchase cakes, bring a small cooler bag for travel, especially on hot days.
Fort Montagu
Visit Fort Montagu on the eastern shore to see the small coastal fortification and hear its 18th-century history.
Tips from local experts:
- Paths here are exposed and may be sandy; wear footwear you don't mind getting slightly dusty.
- There is limited shade around the fort — bring water and sun protection for comfort.
- The stop includes short walking sections to viewpoints; those with mobility limits can remain near the vehicle.
