Itinerary
Day 1
Meet: Old Harbour (Hlésgata 1)
Meet your guide at Hlésgata 1 by the Old Harbour for a welcome, bike fitting, helmet check and a short safety briefing before departure.
Tips from local experts:
- Arrive 10 minutes before the start to complete bike fitting and paperwork—this avoids delaying the group.
- Wear a wind‑proof outer layer and closed shoes; mornings near the harbour can be breezy even in summer.
- Keep your phone/camera accessible; the harbour area has immediate photo opportunities before you ride off.
Northern Peninsula Ride
Cycle through the northern part of Reykjavík along relaxed paths and open views — an easy stretch to settle into the ride.
Tips from local experts:
- Follow your guide’s pace and keep single file when traffic or pedestrian zones appear.
- Use the dedicated cycle lanes where available and signal clearly when turning.
- Carry a small water bottle in an easily reachable pocket; there are limited drinking taps on the route.
Stops: Harpa Concert Hall & Sun Voyager
Short photo and commentary stops at the striking Harpa Concert Hall and the Sun Voyager sculpture on the waterfront.
Tips from local experts:
- At Harpa, step onto the plaza for photos but keep bicycles off the main plaza area to avoid crowds.
- Sun Voyager faces west — it’s a good spot for wide coastal photos; allow the guide to position the group for safe access.
- Respect event access at Harpa (if an event is taking place follow the guide’s directions and avoid blocking entrances).
Höfði House & Green Areas
Visit the area around Höfði House, then ride past local sports grounds and the Reykjavík botanical/green spaces for a quieter stretch.
Tips from local experts:
- Höfði House is in a pedestrian‑friendly area; lock your bike to the guide’s rack while listening to the guide’s history notes.
- If anyone prefers a slower pace, let the guide know — there are short places to stop and rest in the green areas.
- Watch for locally used paths crossing sports grounds and give way to players and pedestrians.
Hallgrímskirkja
Reach Reykjavík’s most recognisable landmark, pause for photos and a short explanation of the church and surrounding neighborhood.
Tips from local experts:
- There may be pedestrians and tour groups at Hallgrímskirkja — keep bikes to the side and follow the guide’s positioning for photos.
- If you plan to visit inside or the tower after the tour, note opening hours separately; this stop is a short exterior pause.
- Secure loose items—wind can be stronger near the open church square.
City Centre Finish: Parliament area & Laugavegur
A relaxed ride into the city centre where the tour finishes. Explore the Parliament area, main shopping street (Laugavegur) and colorful downtown streets before dismounting.
Tips from local experts:
- Expect more pedestrian traffic in the city centre—ride slowly through shared spaces and be ready to dismount if directed.
- Laugavegur has many cafés and shops if the group wants to stay together and grab snacks after the tour.
- Plan a clear meeting point at the finish (the guide will confirm) if the group splits up afterward.
