Itinerary
Day 1
4-hour private island experience on the Ivalo River with local hosts Tina & Tapio. Schedule below assumes the 11:00 start time; the operator also runs departures at 15:00 and 19:00 with the same pacing.
Meet at Koppelo harbour & safety briefing
Arrive at the boat harbour in Koppelo. Meet your local hosts, get fitted with life jackets, and receive a short safety briefing and plan for rotations (hot tub/sauna/fishing) for families.
Tips from local experts:
- Arrive 5–10 minutes before scheduled start to allow time for life‑jacket fitting.
- Bring a small dry bag for keys, phone and a spare change of clothes; towels are provided but a personal dry bag keeps electronics safe.
- If arriving by car, park at Koppelontie and lock valuables — the harbour is rural and unattended.
Private boat transfer to island on Ivalo River
Short guided boat ride from Koppelo harbour to the hosts' island on the Ivalo River. Life jackets must be worn for all passengers.
Tips from local experts:
- Wear a light windproof layer — river winds can be cooler even in summer.
- Keep cameras and phones in a waterproof case or inner pocket during the transfer.
- Children should remain seated while the boat is moving; the guide will help with boarding and disembarking.
Outdoor hot tub (changing & rotation)
Use of the wood‑heated outdoor hot tub by the river. Towels are provided; the hosts manage stove heating. Maximum 6 persons in the tub at a time — families will rotate as needed.
Tips from local experts:
- Bring swimwear and an extra dry set of clothes; towels are provided but a spare change is useful for kids.
- The hot tub is wood‑heated; allow a few minutes for water to settle after logs are added — follow hosts' timing.
- Supervise children at all times near the water; the tub and river are natural settings without lifeguards.
Traditional Finnish sauna & fishing
Use the small traditional sauna (max 3 persons at a time) with buckets of heated river water for washing. While some guests sauna, others try simple rod fishing (hook, line, worm) from the shore — no fishing licence required for this method here.
Tips from local experts:
- Sauna has no shower; use the heated river water buckets for rinsing and change in the nearby changing room.
- Children can fish from the shore with the simple rods provided — bring closed shoes for better footing on the bank.
- Rotate groups between sauna and fishing to keep waits short; the hosts will manage safe access to the riverbanks.
BBQ lunch at terrace or Lappish teepee
BBQ outside on the terrace or in a Lappish teepee by open fire with the hosts. Menu includes traditional Finnish sausages, reindeer sausage, bread and homemade pasta salad; vegetarian or chicken options available on request.
Tips from local experts:
- Notify the hosts in advance of any allergies or dietary restrictions so they can prepare the vegetarian or chicken alternatives.
- Bring a light insect repellent for summer months; the riverside setting can have mosquitoes near dusk.
- Bring a small reusable cup or bottle if you prefer a particular drink temperature; the hosts provide the meal but not specialty beverages.
Wrap-up, photos and return to Koppelo harbour
Final time to change, pack and take photos. Board the boat for the return to Koppelo harbour and end of the experience.
Tips from local experts:
- Leave time to dry and change before boarding to keep gear dry for the drive home.
- Collect all personal items before leaving the island; mobile reception can be intermittent so confirm pick‑up arrangements in advance.
- If travelling onward, confirm your onward transport time — the harbour is rural and transfers may require extra time.
