Itinerary
Day 1
Private Golden Circle with Silfra snorkeling — relaxed pacing for a romantic day out. Start in Reykjavík and return same evening.
Pick-up from Reykjavík — meet your private guide
Your driver-guide will collect you from your Reykjavík accommodation and brief you on the day. Relax on the scenic drive to Þingvellir National Park.
Tips from local experts:
- Confirm exact pickup location the evening before — many hotels prefer a curbside spot for easy loading and privacy.
- Bring a small daypack with your swimwear under clothes so you can change quickly for Silfra.
- If you want a quiet, romantic start, ask the guide for a short scenic detour along Faxaflói coastline before heading inland.
Silfra Snorkeling — guided dry-suit experience
Suit up and snorkel one of the clearest freshwater fissures in the world — swim gently between the Eurasian and North American plates accompanied by a certified PADI Divemaster. Includes full gear, briefing and in-water time.
Tips from local experts:
- Minimum age is 12 — bring your passport or ID and mention any health concerns to the guide ahead of time.
- Layer well under the dry suit (thermal undersuit provided) — in July air is mild but water is glacially cold; your partner can warm you with a hot chocolate after the dive.
- Ask your guide to take underwater photos for a unique couples' keepsake; pick a quiet spot on entry/exit for a private post-dive moment.
Warm-up break — hot chocolate & cookies
A short, cosy refresh break after snorkeling — warm drinks and snacks supplied to help you warm up and enjoy a quiet moment together.
Tips from local experts:
- Sip slowly and use this time to check your on-water photos and plan a posed couple shot for later in the park.
- Take off damp layers inside the visitor centre to warm up faster — staff can help with drying suggestions.
- If you need privacy, ask the guide for a quieter bench area away from the main path.
Short walk — Þingvellir National Park (tectonic rift & viewpoint)
Explore the rift valley and scenic viewpoints; walk a gentle path between the continental plates and pause for dramatic couple photos overlooking the lake.
Tips from local experts:
- Paths near the main viewpoints are compacted and relatively easy — good for a relaxed stroll and intimate photos.
- For a romantic photo, head to the Öxarárfoss viewpoint or the Almannagjá gorge edge for dramatic backdrops.
- Sun protection: July has long daylight — bring sunglasses and a light windproof layer for comfort during breezy viewpoints.
Drive to Friðheimar greenhouse for a special lunch
Scenic drive across the Golden Circle to Friðheimar — a unique greenhouse restaurant specialising in tomato-based dishes, perfect for a cozy couple lunch.
Tips from local experts:
- If you prefer a quieter table, ask the guide to request a table near the glasshouse edge for soft filtered light and photos.
- Friðheimar can be busy — pre-order the tomato soup and fresh-baked bread to minimise waiting and ensure a relaxed meal.
- For a romantic touch, share a dessert and ask staff about the greenhouse tour so you can see where the produce is grown together.
Lunch at Friðheimar (tomato greenhouse)
Relax over a memorable, locally-sourced lunch inside the heated greenhouse — a warm, intimate setting ideal for couples.
Tips from local experts:
- Try the signature tomato soup served with freshly-baked bread; it's light, comforting and great for sharing.
- If you have dietary restrictions, Friðheimar is accommodating — notify staff when ordering for alternatives.
- Leave a little room for a shared dessert — the setting is perfect for a slow, unhurried meal together.
Geysir Geothermal Area — Strokkur eruptions & bubbling pools
Walk the boardwalks to watch Strokkur erupt and explore the steaming vents — dramatic geothermal scenery with great photo opportunities.
Tips from local experts:
- Position yourselves slightly upwind of Strokkur for the best photos and to avoid steam spray.
- For a private-feel moment, ask your guide to time the route so you view Strokkur between peak visitor flows.
- Wear sturdy shoes — the boardwalks can be wet; July is mild but steam can make the air humid.
Short transfer to Gullfoss waterfall
Quick scenic drive down-valley to Gullfoss — use this time to relax, enjoy the view from the vehicle, and prepare for the waterfall walk.
Tips from local experts:
- Bring a light waterproof layer — spray from Gullfoss can be refreshing and photo-worthy.
- Ask your guide to stop at the upper viewpoint first for panoramic shots, then descend for a closer, intimate viewpoint.
- If you prefer fewer crowds, request the guide time your visit to avoid the busiest coach arrivals.
Gullfoss waterfall — dramatic double cascade
Feel the power and mist of the 'Golden Falls' — enjoy both upper and lower viewpoints and take couple photos on the viewing platforms.
Tips from local experts:
- Golden-hour lighting is beautiful here — in July the light is soft late evening; ask the guide to linger if you want romantic light.
- Use the lower viewing path for close-up shots with the falls as a dramatic backdrop; be mindful of wet surfaces.
- Keep valuables in a dry bag during close-up photos to avoid spray damage to electronics.
Drive to Kerið crater — scenic countryside transfer
Drive across volcanic landscapes toward Kerið, a vivid crater lake edged with red slopes — time to relax in the vehicle and enjoy the scenery.
Tips from local experts:
- Ask the guide for a quiet playlist or leave the windows down for fresh-country ambience.
- If you want to arrange a surprise (flowers, small toast), brief the guide in advance — they can often help with a discreet stop.
- Restroom break available at small roadside services en route if needed.
Kerið Crater — rim walk and lake view
A short walk around Kerið's rim and optional descent to the crater lake for an intimate panorama and striking photos of the blue-green water against red volcanic rock.
Tips from local experts:
- The rim path is compact and short — perfect for a relaxed hand-in-hand stroll.
- For a romantic photo, descend to the crater lake (if you are comfortable with steps) and place yourselves at the water’s edge for reflections.
- If you’d like sunset-like light, ask your guide to extend the visit slightly — July’s long daylight can give golden tones late into the evening.
Return drive to Reykjavík — relaxed evening transfer
Comfortable drive back to Reykjavík with optional stops for photos or a final scenic viewpoint. Your guide will drop you at your accommodation.
Tips from local experts:
- If you want a final romantic stop in Reykjavík, request a short detour to the waterfront (Grótta lighthouse) for evening sea views.
- Use the return drive to review photos with your guide — they often offer framing tips for post-trip prints.
- Expect arrival around early evening; in July there is still plenty of daylight for a gentle Reykjavik stroll if you wish.
Evening — drop-off and day wrap-up
End of tour: your guide drops you at your Reykjavík accommodation. A perfect day of shared adventure and memorable photos.
Tips from local experts:
- Tip your guide for personalised service if you had a special moment or detour — it’s appreciated for private tours.
- If you’d like a dinner recommendation for a romantic evening, ask your guide — they can suggest nearby cosy restaurants.
- Save and back up your day’s photos while they’re fresh — your guide can remind you of the best-shot times and locations.
