Itinerary
Day 1
Pickup in downtown Reykjavík, transfer to Þingvellir / Silfra, equipment fitting, guided drysuit snorkeling, changing and return to Reykjavík.
Pickup — Downtown Reykjavík
Group pickup in downtown Reykjavík. Meet at the agreed pickup location for boarding and a short safety briefing on the vehicle. Staff will confirm names and collect signed medical/liability forms if not completed online.
Tips from local experts:
- Be ready at the pickup point 5 minutes before the scheduled pickup time with ID to complete/confirm the liability/medical form.
- Dress in comfortable layers and slip-on shoes to make changing into neoprene booties and drysuit liners fast.
- Bring a small dry bag or secure pouch for valuables — phones and wallets should stay on the vehicle during the water activity.
Arrival & briefing at Þingvellir
Short transfer to the Þingvellir / Silfra access area followed by a detailed safety briefing, fitting of the drysuit and other snorkeling gear, and short practice on land.
Tips from local experts:
- Use the visitor centre restrooms before gearing up; facilities at Þingvellir are the most convenient before entering the site.
- Leave non-essential items on the transport; guides will fit personal gear (masks, hoods) and advise about prescription masks or contacts.
- Follow the guide's hands-on practice closely — walking on the path to the fissure is over uneven rock and may be slippery.
Snorkeling in Silfra
Guided drysuit snorkeling across the Silfra fissure. The guide manages pace and safety; participants float and swim slowly to observe clarity and underwater rock formations. Underwater photos are taken by the guide and included.
Tips from local experts:
- If you wear glasses bring a prescription snorkel mask; otherwise use contact lenses — regular glasses cannot be worn under the snorkeling mask.
- Wear a warm base layer (thermals) and wool socks for the drysuit as external clothing will not be accessible while in the water.
- Do not touch the rocks or underwater formations; stay close to the guide and follow breath-control instructions for stable, relaxed snorkeling.
Changing, warm drink & photos
Return to the changing facilities to get warm and dry. Guides provide hot chocolate and share the included underwater photos for review.
Tips from local experts:
- Have a warm set of clothes (outer shell, hat, gloves) and a towel ready to change into — drying facilities at the site are basic.
- Keep a small waterproof bag for wet shoes/booties so they don't soak dry clothes in your bag.
- Ask to view your underwater photos before leaving the site so any immediate corrections or re-sends can be handled on the spot.
Return transfer to Reykjavík and drop-off
Drive back to downtown Reykjavík and drop participants at the original pickup location or an agreed central drop-off point.
Tips from local experts:
- Expect arrival back in downtown Reykjavík around the scheduled drop-off time; keep a lightweight layer handy for the short walk from the bus to your next stop.
- If you plan to eat or continue sightseeing, popular cafés in central Reykjavík open early — confirm exact drop-off spot with the guide on the return.
- Secure any photos or files provided by the guide before leaving the vehicle to avoid losing digital files when dispersing in town.
