Itinerary
Day 1
Meet at Scandinavian Travel Group / Safarimarket (Keskuskuja 2 B 3) at 20:00 for pick-up. Transfer to Polarman's camp takes about 10 minutes. The on-site program lasts approximately 2.5 hours; return to Levi is planned around 23:00.
Polarman's camp
Arrive at the private Polarman’s camp by the frozen shore of Lake Levi. The Polarman welcomes the group, invites you to sit on reindeer skins around the open firepit and provides an introduction. He will invite guests on a short Aurora Hunt walk along the river (on packed ice/snow) to look for aurora activity and will photograph guests if lights appear.
Tips from local experts:
- Meet 10–15 minutes before the start at Scandinavian Travel Group / Safarimarket (Keskuskuja 2 B 3, Sirkka) to allow time for check-in and boarding; the transfer from Levi to the camp is roughly 10 minutes.
- Bring warm footwear and hat for the short lakeside walk; children should wear nonslip winter boots—staff will supervise but parents remain responsible for young children near the fire and on ice.
- If you need thermal clothing, rent it in advance from Safarimarket in Levi centre (available only at that location); staff will photograph any Northern Lights and email photos after the tour.
Snow Igloo park
Guided walk to the Snow Igloo Park built on the ice. Crawl into the big snow igloo for a short express winter survival course led by the Polarman. Children can use the snow slide and maze; the park is illuminated for evening visits.
Tips from local experts:
- Snow constructions can be slippery—supervise children on slides and in tunnels; a short walk on packed snow connects the camp and igloo park.
- The interior of snow igloos is cold despite being sheltered; limit time inside with very small children and return to the Aurora dome to warm up when needed.
- Bring a small headlamp or use your phone torch for moving between features if you need extra light; staff will guide the route and point out safe areas for kids to play.
Aurora dome, movie and Lappish BBQ
Return to the warm Aurora dome (approx. +15°C) for hot drinks and gingerbread cookies. Watch a 20-minute film about Lapland and the Northern Lights, listen to Polarman’s stories, and enjoy the outdoor Lappish BBQ—sausages to roast on sticks and marshmallows—around the open firepit. Staff monitor the sky and will call the group if aurora activity appears; they will photograph guests with the lights and send images by email after the program.
Tips from local experts:
- The Aurora dome is warm—use it to warm children between outdoor activities; seating is on low reindeer skins so bring a small cushion for toddlers if needed.
- The film is approximately 20 minutes and suitable for older children; plan short breaks for very young children who may need to move about during the movie.
- Polarman and staff will alert the group if aurora signs are visible; if you want family photos with the lights, have a parent ready with any small props and keep children's faces visible for the long-exposure shots staff take.
