Itinerary
Day 1
Meet in historic San Telmo and follow a guided walking tasting tour that finishes with a full asado at a local parrilla. Moderate walking on cobblestones; not wheelchair accessible.
Meeting point: Lunfarda Travel (tour check-in)
Gather with your guide and group, quick orientation and safety notes. Guide confirms dietary needs and gives a brief overview of the route through San Telmo.
Tips from local experts:
- Arrive 5 minutes early to check in; the meeting point is Bolívar 1063 in San Telmo.
- Carry a small daypack for purchases; space is limited at the parrilla.
- Notify the guide of any food allergies at check-in so they can advise during tastings.
San Telmo walk: Mate masterclass, alfajores, empanadas & local stalls (Defensa 963 area)
Stroll cobblestone streets around Defensa 963 to learn about mate and taste dulce de leche-filled alfajores, sample empanadas, try Argentine cocktails, and visit local food parlors and stalls near Dorrego Square and San Telmo Church.
Tips from local experts:
- Wear comfortable shoes for cobblestones and expect short standing intervals while sampling.
- When offered mate, hold the gourd gently and sip from the bombilla if you're comfortable; the guide will demonstrate proper etiquette.
- Bring small bills (cash) for any optional purchases at market stalls; some vendors are cash-only.
Parrilla asado and picada tasting (traditional grill)
Short walk to the parrilla near Humberto 1 (address provided) for a seated asado experience: shared picada of cheeses and cured meats followed by grilled selections (tira de asado, bife de chorizo, chorizo, morcilla, provoleta) paired with a local wine. Time allocated for relaxed dining and conversation.
Tips from local experts:
- Expect a relaxed, shared-table style meal; portions are designed for sharing among the group.
- If you avoid red meat or have dietary restrictions, inform the guide on arrival so the kitchen can adapt where possible.
- The dining area may be informal; keep a light jacket or scarf handy for breezy afternoons in San Telmo.
