Itinerary
Day 1
Full-day private Golden Circle highlights tour with hotel pickup in Reykjavík. Morning start (07:00) option shown; alternative start times (14:00 or 21:00) are also available by request.
Hotel pickup and depart Reykjavík
Your private guide and driver pick you up from your Reykjavík hotel (or agreed central pickup point). Brief orientation in the vehicle and departure for the Golden Circle.
Tips from local experts:
- Confirm your hotel pickup location in advance so the guide can plan the most direct route through Reykjavík.
- Have a small daypack with water, a camera, and a light jacket ready in the vehicle for easy access.
- If you need an infant or child car seat, request it before the tour start time.
Visit Þingvellir (Thingvellir) National Park
Explore the rift valley and historic assembly fields at Þingvellir. Short walks to key viewpoints and the main fissure/almenning areas; time to take photos and enjoy the landscape with your guide.
Tips from local experts:
- Wear sturdy, water-resistant shoes — some paths and boardwalks can be uneven or wet.
- Bring a warm layer and windproof jacket even in summer; weather can change quickly in the rift valley.
- For a private moment, ask your guide to stop at the Almannagjá viewpoint for quieter views and photos away from the main parking area.
Visit Gullfoss waterfall
Arrive at Gullfoss to view the powerful stepped falls from designated viewing platforms. Short, accessible walks from the parking area to the main viewpoints.
Tips from local experts:
- Use the marked walkways and viewing platforms for the best and safest vantage points.
- Bring a water-resistant outer layer; spray and wind near the falls can be significant.
- If you prefer quieter photos, your guide can time a short detour to the upper platform for a different perspective.
Visit Geysir geothermal area (Haukadalur)
Walk the boardwalks through the geothermal area and watch active hot springs including Strokkur, which erupts regularly. Learn about geothermal activity from your guide.
Tips from local experts:
- Stay on the designated paths and boardwalks; ground temperatures are unpredictable off-trail.
- Keep camera and phone ready — Strokkur typically erupts every few minutes, but timing can vary.
- There is a visitor area with toilets and a café near the parking area for quick refreshments or a restroom break.
Return transfer and drop-off in Reykjavík
Drive back to Reykjavík with scenic views along the way. Drop-off at your original pickup point or a central Reykjavík location.
Tips from local experts:
- Confirm your preferred drop-off location with the guide (hotel or a central Reykjavík address) at the start of the tour.
- Use the return journey for rest or to review photos; the guide can point out landmarks on the route back.
- Keep any personal items collected in your daypack before disembarking to avoid leaving anything in the vehicle.
